SEATTLE — A state legislator started a firestorm by claiming bicyclists add to greenhouse gas emissions by breathing heavily as they ride.
Bike shop owner Dale Carlson said he was so concerned about a proposal to tax bicycle sales that he wrote to state legislators.
The email he received back from the transportation committee’s ranking Republican, Ed Orcutt of Kalama, made an unusual claim.
“He talked about the effect on global warming we have from breathing hard,” said Carlson.
Orcutt refuted the idea that cycling is environmentally friendly by explaining that cyclists have “an increased heart rate and respiration.”
Orcutt wrote that means “the act of riding a bike results in greater emissions of carbon dioxide from the rider. Since CO2 is deemed to be a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride,” the email said.
“Oh, I thought that was amusing,” said Carlson.

The constitutonally undefined federal agency which Congress not only wrongly delegated federal legislative powers to in defiance of the Constitution's Section 1 of Article I, but legislative powers which the states have never delegated to Congress via the Constitution even if Congress could delegate legislative powers to unelected federal bureaucrats.

Sigh! The obvious irony of the man’s response goes over the head of the sarcasm challenged!
This is an expected result of the myth of global warming, or climate change, or, as they have now begun to talk, weather anomalies - Since greenhouse gases cause climate change (no such evidence); and since humans contribute to greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere (no matter how miniscule the contribution); then climate change must be caused by humans and we must do everything possible to minimize human-caused greenhouse gas emissions - even to the point evidenced in this article.
The unfortunate outcome is that the uneducated 0bama supporters and AlGore followers blindly believe the premises and, therefore, it only follows that the conclusion must also be true, no matter how ridiculous.
The only logical solution is for 0bama and his supporters and AlGore and his followers to sacrifice themselves for the good of the planet - they must stop breathing immediately.
As a cyclist and someone who has seen numerous recreational and hobby endeavors diminished and stripped away by government idiocy over the years, yes, I did.

I get a different take. I think he was being clever and was beating down a greenie with some of their own rhetoric.
The EPA has classified Carbon di-oxide as a greenhouse gas and therefore it must be taxed through bicycle sales taxes.
Just heard this guy on the radio and have not read the entire thread, but what I got from it is bikers are not going to escape new transportation taxes that are up and coming here.

Doesn’t look like scathing sarcasm, doesn’t sound like scathing sarcasm, doesn’t say anywhere that it was scathing sarcasm.
All it says is that he said he was over the top, that there is no merit to his claims and that he should not have brought it up.
None of that means he was being sarcastic, nor does any of that means he doesn’t believe it despite the fact that it is an obvious political lie. He wants to promote it just like every other politician wants to promote it. He just isn’t used to being called on it, because no one ever calls them on it, so it looks to me like he knew he looked like a fool, just like they all look like fools.
I didn’t miss any sarcasm. Perhaps you should change your tag to (BlatantPropagandaLaughablyExposedDectorless).
Just a suggestion.
I propose that we have a system wherein Breathing is allocated and the allocation be based on an Odd/Even days of the month system. All Conservatives will be able to breath on the Odd Days everyone else will be able to breath on the even days This includes RINOs on the even days.
We will re-evaluate this system on a daily basis. It is to go into effect on Midnight March 14th.
