I suspect that the only effect the UKIP will have is to strip the Tories of votes and allow either the Labour or Lib Dems to gain more seats.

That may be, but the only affect Cameron has had is the same.

In the short term, perhaps, although UKIP voters are not all disatisfied tories. They are picking up ex supporters of other parties too. However, it might be worth the temporary pain of a few more labour and lib dem seats. I mean what is the alternative? Cameron’s centrist leaning policies have not stopped Britain’s slide into mushy socialist bliss. They’ve just slowed it down a bit. The leftists will be smiling about that. Why go fast with risk when you can go slowly and surely?
