What do we have against the Violence Against Women Act?
I say that this country is facing Civil War for other reasons.
I think he better start to worry about a second Civil War in this country. The Republican Party might want to choose a side and announce which side they are on; because I sure as hell can’t figure out which side they will be on based on their actions and comments.
>What do we have against the Violence Against Women Act?<
According to the article, the 9 who voted against it think that parts of it are unconstitutional.
Knock me over with a feather...I didn’t think there were THAT many who cared about the Constitution.
For one its violates the EQUAL protection clause. It makes a certain citizen[women] more worthy of protection than other citizens[men].
The same crime is prosecuted differently if against women than men.
Women are the ones who demanded equality before the law...and once they got it they didn’t like it much,
.
too bad.
Well, first of all, violence against women is already illegal, as is violence against anyone.
What this act does is allocate a bunch more taxpayer money to fund a bureaucracy that distributes even more tax dollars to various groups, including gay rights and illegal immigrant rights groups.
Given its name, it's one hell of a tool in the public opinion war against conservatives. "By voting this down, Republicans have shown that they are OK with violence against women!!!"
The left could name a bill the "Save the Puppies and Kitties Act" and load it up with pork and slip in all sorts of unconstitutional provisions. Then sit back and chuckle when, as the conservatives oppose it, the voters that are as stupid as the left hopes we all are wonder what the conservatives have against puppies and kitties.
Oh, a few things. Raised your voice during an argument? Domestic violence. Didn't tell the wife about that bonus? Financial domestic violence. Slammed a door a little out of frustration? Domestic violence. Didn't do a dang thing but she wants the upper hand in divorce court? Domestic violence
Then kiss you 2A rights goodby.
1) It's unconstitutional
2) It imposes punishments without trial or conviction
3) It reverses the presumption of innocence
4) In fact, it eliminates most of the protections of the citizen (subject) which have been in place since Magna Carta
5) It creates a fiction by statute (that women never lie)
6) It federalizes state matters and thus requires a nonexistent Federal police power.
Other than that, it's a great law, one that all good Republicans will surely support.
