Unfortunately it is probably with us forever.

If nothing else, progressives are devious and smart when it comes to doing things like the 17th amendment. It was popular vote snake oil sold under the empowerment label and had delivered exactly the opposite. Now we're stuck with senators who oppose the wishes of their own states on a regular basis.

You will never get denying the vote past the people. I'm not sure I trust my legislature enough to give that choice back to them. I'd rather see them elected by an electoral style system within the states.

Who would be denying anyone the vote? If anything their votes in their individual State elections become more valuable and consequential.

Getting them to understand that is the issue.
