'The Afghan president has ordered US special forces to leave Wardak province within two weeks over allegations of disappearances and torture.
The measures were being taken due to the actions of Afghans considered to be part of US special forces, said a spokesman for Hamid Karzai.
The strategically significant, central province of Wardak has been the recent focus of counter-insurgency operations.
A US spokesman said it took all allegations of misconduct seriously.'

Tell me how helping enable the rise of not only the Taliban but Hekmatyar’s Hezb-i-islami and of course al-Qaida vs strategically making that mess a long-time Soviet problem was not insane.
Sure. Americans certainly do bend that way. Who else? Afghans and Muslims are all piece-loving, humane people of the land./sarc
If you wanted to fight for the Soviet Union and sustain them and their military goals, you should have, you could have served communism then and still can, but it is too late for you to fight to preserve the Soviet Union.
The proper thing to do would be to leave the entire country, and Karzai to his own devices. We’ll start a “deadpool” on how long he lasts. I give him about nine months, sheer uneducated guess.
Keeping the Soviet Union together is a lot over the top. But it seems to me Russia should have remained PO’ed at Afghanistan (because of all the casualties they took) by the time we decided to start kicking Afghan butts, and should have been a lot more help in cleaning out the Taliban and al Quida just for revenge. The Soviets were trying to keep a lid on that mess, which may well be the only halfway positive thing they’d ever done.
But after the fall, they just shrank to being reactionaries, merely resisting the US at every turn, mindless of any central foreign policy philosophy. Sort of like liberals, who think the Taliban is just great so long as they’re killing Americans. They don’t understand that if there was a world-wide Caliphate the godless liberals would be the first against the wall.
I had older friends talk about what a carphole Viet Nam is, but that country has a lot more going for it than just about any of the ‘Stans.
Any chance of feeding this idiot and his family to the Taliban for a messy ending?
Yep. Big mistake that. Too bad hindsight is 20/20.
Hell, we should have provided money and intelligence to the Soviets for use against the “Mujahadeen.”
Along with a ceremonial anal rape.
Anal rape while being murdered is a cultural thing. All cultures are equal, right? /s
I know your point, but we were correct to fight the Soviet Union all over the globe, including Afghanistan.
Joining them as allies to enable Soviet strategic goals as was suggested, is just idiocy.
Reagan was right, he was fighting the Soviet Union and Afghanistan was an important part of Reagan’s correct strategy.
Unless our corrupt politicians and generals are taking skim from the top - we're getting nothing...
Wait, what am I thinking? Even if the little buggers are on the take, we're getting nothing.
Agreed. But once the Soviet Union collapsed, new alliances could have been formed but for the fact the Russians hated/still hate us as much as back in the Soviet days.
It was Kosovo that ruined the chance to bring Russia into the fold. Stupid, stupid move.
Klinton had a knife clenched in his teeth, and somebody had to get hurt (one month to the day after the Lewinski story broke). Yeah, Kosovo was a world-class mistake on multiple levels. John McCain supported it.
Yeah Russia seems to be heading to a bad place.
Evil seems to be a part of the fabric of the national Russian character, off the top of my head, historically they always seem to prefer the darkness to good.
When the evil Empire was brought down, I guess most of us suspected that it wouldn’t change Russia in any fundamental way, but at least it has/is given us a breather for a couple of generations before we have to face the apocalypse again.
McCain went just short of wanting to Nuke Belgrade....That's why a part of me is glad he lost in 2008.
Churchill’s words are just as pertinent today as they were back then...
“I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest. “
All of me was pi$$ed as heck when he got the nomination in 2008. You know how some people have a trick knee? He has a trick brain. Same thing.
Has he ordered the Taliban out for the same reasons?
You rarely hear about “the ‘good people’ of Russia.” It makes me wonder if there are any. They were probably wiped out in a pogrom or something....
