The Los Angeles Times, ever eager to implicate the LAPD in anything it can get its hands on, is now questioning whether the use of a strong tear gas that can cause a fire was the right tactic for the LAPD when they cornered alleged murderer and cop-killer Christian Dorner.

Never mind that night was about to fall and Dorner, hiding in a cabin near Big Bear Lake, had not given any evidence that he would surrender, even after numerous loudspeaker calls for him to give up. Never mind that there was a possibility that the former LAPD cop might have night goggles, and could have murdered more police officers if he escaped. Never mind that he was still in the cabin despite previous tear gas attempts to drive him out. Never mind that a demolition vehicle tore down most of the walls, thus leaving the interior exposed. Never mind that Dorner was still firing at officers, as one officer said, Any time they moved, this guy was shooting. Some new info....
Loud speaker warnings, night vision goggles??
Just minutes after the more powerful tear gas was used, the cabin was on fire.
For a few particular FReepers out there, NO, I DO NOT SUPPORT DORNER OR HIS ACTIONS!
I do question the precedent of police burning houses to get their suspects though when it is obvious it was their intent to kill all along.

I can hear the environmental freaks now..how dare the LAPD use tear gas, can you imagine the carbon emissions that lets off..then Darryl Hannah will come on TV demanding that instead of tear gas, they use canisters filled with pixie sticks

I heard a spokeswoman for the San Bernadino Sheriff's Dept. say on TV that they call that type of tear gas "burners" because they know it is flammable. FWIW.
I'm pretty sure the FBI knows it too.

All I have to say is, that's one heck of a fireproof mushroom in that photo.

I thought the LAPD wasn’t at the cabin? /s

I thought the LAPD wasnt at the cabin? /sI've been wondering and have been meaning to ask, how can LAPD be in San bernandino's jurisdiction?
I'm not suggesting anything but LA vs Big Bear is at least 3 hours away.
Is that common practice, do you know?

I’m sure there’s some kind of formal process for it.

Never mind that Dorner was still firing at officers, as one officer said, Any time they moved, this guy was shooting. How can a man trapped inside a cabin with presumably 1,000 rifles trained upon him even poke his head in a window without getting it blown off?
We're to believe he could pop up, set sights and fire without being shot?

I know what ya’ mean, Ron. You don’t have to agree with the perp....but it’s the principle of how Fedzilla (or local law enforcement) is handling situation and setting a precedent.

San Bernardino is a different county generally to the East of LA. Some MSM stories said LAPD had members present but SB cops were doing the stuff.
These people are all technically speaking CA government employees so WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE. Dorner is dead as a door nail, and THAT'S A GOOD THING.

Is that common practice, do you know? I'm sure someone will follow up with the specifics, but CA LEOs are sworn at the State level. There is a lot of inter-agency this and that. I know officers from other cities transit through my town to the county court house and they will make traffic stops outside their own city.

The police should answer the questions until the people run out of questions.
