Didn’t the USS Lake Erie shoot down a bus sized satellite a few years ago? I heard that the Russians scrambled interceptors but couldn’t do anything. The US Navy could possibly have detected and brought down this thing.

I don’t think any military on the planet has a system capable of shooting down an incoming object with a speed of 33,000 MPH.

Why bother?

It seems to have brought itself down just fine.

IIRC, we do or did have an ASAT missile that was mounted on an F-15. I wonder the same thing if it would have been possible to intercept the meteor using an AEGIS missile system or the Patriot or if we did into the past, a Nike-Zeus or Ajax or even a BOMARC.
