I don’t like it. We’ll end up with an additional tax.

Exactly. They will add an tax to the existing taxes. It will be the State of Taxes not Texas.

At least the local politicians are close to hand if rope and lamp-posts are required.

I can annoy them personally on a regular basis, and have a much greater impact on their election.

Given that it would have to go through the amendment process and be passed through a referendum (thus making it incredibly unlikely), they couldn't get it through that process if it was an additional tax. They would have to make it so that a statewide property tax replaced the local property taxes.

Whether it's a property tax, sales tax, etc., there will have to be a statewide tax for schools eventually, because the courts have already ruled the cap amounts to a statewide property tax and just trying to reform the system will mean the state is back in court again and again.

Exactly. The won’t replace the standard city, school, and county taxes; they’ll end up just adding it on top. You know I was thinking how about a politician carbon tax based upon how much they talk out of both sides of their mouth. Surely it has to be causing some serious damage to the environment and contributing to global warming...also a tax on any legislation they draft that doesn’t apply to them.../s

The state wide tax for public schools has worked so well so let’s do it for property. /s/ With Robin Hood we went from a few bad schools to all of them being bad.

Listened to a speech Jerry gave last Saturday night at a Lincoln Dinner. He is totally invested in granting a brand new guest worker program for illegals.

Supporting more illegals and more taxes moved him from a maybe to a DEFINITE NO WAY JOSEA!
