Let’s see...Paterno was aware that Sandusky had been investigated by the authorities (on child molestation allegations) in 1997. Four years later, a graduate assistant on his staff (later promoted to assistant coach—and still on the staff when the scandal finally broke) tells Paterno what he witnessed Sandusky doing with that little boy in the shower of the Penn State doorbell complex. JoePa’s reaction? Call the AD—the guy he put into that post—and let the cover-up continue. In the interim, more kids were victimized by Sandusky.
Paterno could have stopped the whole thing in 2001 by simply having the courage to call the local prosecutor or the state police. Instead, he was more concerned about protecting the PSU football brand and his own reputation. The “report” commissioned by his family is little more than an exercise in denial.
SEVEN people testified under oath that Joe Paterno was NOT made aware of 1998. NO ONE testified that he was made aware of 1998.
Why do people (the media) just make stuff up? Why do otherwise smart people buy into everything and anything that some sports hack writes from his basement?
It is painfully obvious that you have not reviewed the facts in this case. So many inaccuracies in your post.
It’s OK though - this is how most people (especially anonymous internet posters!) feel, and probably will feel forever. Those of us who have read the Freeh report, and the Paterno report, page-by-page, (not easy - it’s 400 pages in all) have learned what very likely happened here and, my FRiend, it just not as you think and describe.
It’s OK though. If I were you, I wouldn’t waste my time reading through such an exhaustive compilation. Just realize that you MIGHT have rushed to judgement a bit.
Right, they just worked backwards from their desired result! Like his butt buddy Sandusky, Paterno, at the end of the day was just another ‘self aggrandizing sports figure” who saw himself as more important than truth and justice. If the people of Pennsylvania had any decency, they'd go burn down the stadium at Penn State, but instead enough of them are so full of crap, they continue to defend the indefensible.
