Which police agency did Paterno report this to?

The head of the Penn State University Police Department.

Uncle Chip, I'd like you to rethink this.

First of all, Joe Paterno testified under oath before the grand jury that the only person he talked with about this was the athletic director, Tim Curley. Paterno testified under oath that he didn't know if Curley told anyone else. Unless Paterno was mistaken, or forgetful, or worst of all, perjured himself, Paterno never spoke with Gary Schultz.

If Paterno spoke with Gary Schultz, then that portion of Paterno's grand jury testimony is unreliable - and the way legal evidence works is that the rest of his grand jury testimony is subject to attack as equally unreliable or untrue.

Me? I think Paterno spoke with Schultz, which means that all of Paterno's testimony has to be taken with a big grain of salt. He can't even remember, or refused to testify truthfully, about talking with Schultz.

Second, Thomas Harmon was the Head of the PSU Campus police, not Gary Schultz. Gary Schultz was the Senior Vice President of Business and Finance. Thomas Harmon reported to Gary Schultz, as did the heads of Internal Audit, Human Resources, Building and Grounds, and seven other departments.

On FR, we don't refer to Obama as the 'head of the State Department', even though it reports to him on a corporate chart. We don't refer to Obama as 'head of Homeland Security," although it reports to him on a security chart, or perhaps the head of the National Security Agency does.

Calling Schultz the 'head of PSU police' is first-class apologetics. Harmon was the head of the PSU Police. He was never told about the 2001 incident.

For all we know, Schultz may have been approached because this was a Human Relations matter (HR reported to Schultz) or < sarc> Building and Grounds, because this involved a shower </sarc>.

Well first you have to make up your mind:

Is Joe Paterno bad because he talked to Schultz, the head of the PSU Police, and didn't admit it to the Grand Jury, 10 years after the incident, or is he bad because he should have gone over Curley's and spoken with Schulz directly. You can't have it both ways.

Either way -- the information made its way to Schulz who was in charge of the PSUPD and he and Curley met with McQueary. What more was Joe supposed to do???

When McQueary was asked why he didn't go to the police, he said under oath that he did. He said that he spoke with Schulz, and in speaking with Schulz he was speaking with the police.

Everyone on that campus knew that Schulz was in charge if the PSUPD.

And when the incident happened in 2001 Schulz called Harmon and asked him to check the 1998 Sandusky file, and he did. It's right in the Freeh Report.

The natural question would be to ask Chief of the PSUPD Harmon what he did after he pulled the 1998 Sandusky file on the computer. The natural question would be -- Has there been another incident??? But Freeh just drops it all right there as if pulling up that file should not have sent up any red flags for the Chief of Police.

To say that Harmon did not atleast suspect that there had been another incident strains credulity. But everything in the Freeh Report strains credulity.

And BTW here is a copy of the 1998 report that Chief Harmon would have pulled up:

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/Sections/NEWS/redactedpolicereport.pdf

And a cursory reading indicates that it was a representative of the Harrisburg Office of the State of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare who, after bringing in a ringer [Seasock] effectually closed the case against Sandusky in 1998.

This same agency and person Jerry Lauro who whitewashed the 1998 investigation was going to be in charge of the 2001 investigation if one was to occur.
