Amazingly some people survived ~ Kurt Vonnegutt jr. and a fellow named Eberhardt Rheimers ~ knew both of them ~ guys even lived in my neighborhood(s) at different times ~ Kurt while growing up, and Eberhardt as a buddy in a commuter group ~ he even helped me negotiate the deal or the commuter pick up operation in Springfield VA.

Two guys who witnessed it as young men and both of them thought of it as unecessary and inordinately brutal. The Brits knew that, not that it changed anybody's mind ~ after action surveys in bombed over civilian districts found that it simply strengthened their resolve to resist.

Now, tell me what part worked

My parents were on a train being evacuated from Oppeln to the West, trying to avoid being “liberated” by Stalin ( for a second time!). They were sidetracked just outside the city when the raid began. If that train had been a couple of hours earlier....

The German economy could not keep the German military supplied.

It worked.

Boohoo all you want about it.

I don't care if it hurt people's little feelings. I don't care if the survivors thought the allied forces were brutal meanies.

It doesn't matter one damned bit how much resolve they had. Resolve was unable to produce enough bullets, beans, petrol, replacement tires, warm clothing, or any of the other things the front line troops needed.

The battle of the bulge fizzled out for the Germans simply because they ran out of supplies.

It doesn't matter one damned bit how squeamish you are about war Muawiyah.

If there is a war here in your lifetime, there will not likely be only two factions and it will be fought at the level described here.

Grow up.

The part about there being 25K less of them to resist. Real war is about annihilation of the other sides ability to make war. The American Civil war was not won because the union generals had such ability on the battlefield. It was won because Sherman burned the civilians out of their homes and burdened the south with total devastation. Real war is won when the civilians can no longer support their army. We have managed to not learn that lesson. Hence we have yet to win a war since WWII.

The German's gave up less than three months later; the bombing worked to weaken their resolve to resist. War is hell; and the more hell the faster it ends.

“Now, tell me what part worked”

You knew Kurt Vonnegutt? That’s cool muawiyah. Remember Ice nine - the creative horror in Cat’s Cradle? It was one of my childhood nightmares... Vonnegutt had one creative mind....

It ended a war Germany deliberately started. A war it hoped would have it dominating the world under the swastika flag and ridding the world of the Jewish people. After surviving the Luftwaffe's attempts to bomb it into submission and the horrifying V-1 and V-2 rocket attacks the British people didn't give a G-damn how many Nazi bastards and Huns died or how as long as they(the Brits) were ''giving it to them back''. War sucks. There's no way around it. It sucks even more when you start wars and end up losing them.
