Obama can’t afford any compromise with Republicans because there’s not one aspect of conservatism that he can accept. He has to remain the outsider fighting for good against the evil, entrenched establishment. (Still taking notes here.)
One thing I disagree with is that Obama doesn’t have the courage to allow his name to be associated with his policies. I don’t think it’s a matter of courage. He just knows that if he’s associated with his own policies, Americans may begin to wake up and realize their dilemma is his fault, and that might slow the implementation of his agenda. He doesn’t want the responsibility of the presidency; he intends to live the rest of his life as the shining knight who did everything possible to defeat the forces of evil, when in fact he was the architect of that evil.
It’s a nightmarish twist on Ronaldus Magnus’ famous statement that you can get a lot done if you don’t care who gets the credit for it.
