He probably carried a motor-cycle in the truck and rode off before the timer was set to burn the truck.

Saw them do that in ‘The Mechanic’ - the real one, from 1972 with Charles Bronson.
He would be a fool to remain in the wilderness. Like you said, he probably switched to a bike. With helmet and gloves he would be anonymous. Go a few hundred miles and he will be outside the search area. He probably has a dozen buddies willing to give him shelter.
They’d have seen the motorcycle tracks, and if that were the case, they wouldn’t be talking about searching all the places he could have reached on foot. They said they found his tracks, so they must have been foot tracks if they are focusing the search like that.

There was snow on the ground where the truck was found. Now I am no expert tracker, but could possibly discern the difference between the tracks of a motorcycle and the tracks of a man (which were found leading from the truck).
