Authorities in Big Bear have spotted fresh tracks believed to be those of a fugitive ex-Los Angeles police officer wanted in connection with a series of shootings and are combing the area for him, a Fire Department official told The Times.
Big Bear Lake Fire Department Asst. Chief Mark Mills also said the burning pickup discovered on a forest road has been linked to Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, sought in connection with a series of shootings that have left three people dead and two wounded.
TV helicopters showed the pickup being readied to be towed from the scene.
The truck was discovered hours into an intensive manhunt for Dorner that spanned Southern California. Although sources said there had been multiple reported sightings of Dorner's truck in the Big Bear area on Thursday, the burnt truck was too badly charred to immediately confirm it was his.
Meanwhile, the mountain community locked down schools and closed the nearby Bear Mountain Resort as a fatigue-clad SWAT team walked through the woods, rifles drawn.
Sean Jacques, director of loss prevention for Big Bear Mountain Resorts, said that after the burning truck was discovered on a forest service road, local law enforcement told resort officials to keep an eye out for Dorner and provided a description of the suspect.

Really? Thanks. I'll just go burn mine since they mean nothing.

bingo!
I don’t believe that he has Manpads either but I think the possibility of him possessing the Barrett has LE in a quandary. If he does hole up in high ground I wonder if Dorner will be the first US soil drone strike kill.
Seems to be the case. Dude is a scumbag, but the cops fear him hurting them more than hurting the public
Maybe he's disguised as a bear.
Sounds legit.
Yeah, maybe if he takes enough pot shots at helos, they’ll drone strike him. Maybe he’s trying for the history books.
For that, the southern half of California is in a state of alert. You couldn't drive a straight pin up a LAPD cop's arse with a sledge hammer right now, and the media is focused on one single man with a firearm or 7.
I'd say his asymetric warfare thing is working out fairly well for him. He's probably already cost millions in overtime charges on time cards.

Listening to Big Bear scanner....DHS is up there, requesting extra help from the local PD.
The dispatcher said ONLY IF they’re comfortable going in to help...
Where’s Jesse?
I argue with a lot of liberals on Facebook all the time. They routinely laugh at the idea of how armed citizens could ever stand up to the police or military.
I’ll tell you the thing that’s got them on their ass right now. It’s one, single, solitary, determined man with a gun, running all of SoCal law enforcement in circles. They’re so scared they’re shooting at Asian women in vaguely similar trucks.
I asked them what they thought it would look like if this scenario had ten men instead of one. Or a thousand. Or more.
They ain’t laughing now.
Just yesterday or the day before, he supposedly tried to steal a boat in San Diego.
More than a few have taken notice of this. You’re probably aware this isn’t the first time where one or two individuals have created this type of utter fear, chaos and paranoia.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s out in the desert now with a place to hide. It’s cool in the daytime in the desert and if he wrote that long of a crappy manifesto than he definitely had time to plan.
The police won’t find him anytime soon unless he’s about to go drastic again.
Hmmm, tracks in the snow and a burning vehicle. How very discreet! Wonder how many booby traps have been set along that trail.
Sure, I know that, but most liberals think that history started this morning, so the effect is more pronounced. ;-)
Another nice factor is that this guy is a rising liberal folk hero. No joke, if he survives this ordeal he could run for congress and win in half of California right now. Liberals are in the very unusual position of cheering on a guy doing what they have been saying is impossible.
The Perp torched his Nissan Titan Crew Cab. He didn’t have a Ford.
This problem will need to be resolved quickly, or it will be like Carter's 444 days of the Hostage Crisis all over again.

By the looks of that Truck, the Cops must have mistaken the two Women delivering Newspapers for Bonnie an Clyde.
Good thing CA restricts Gun Magazines to only ten rounds, oh wait...
