CHICAGO (CBS) Contract demands by Chicago police officers include much higher pay and something you might not have imagined.
Chicago police are reportedly proposing in negotiations that their pay increase by 12 percent over two years.
The union also wants officers to get extra money because they are required to live in the city.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the union is proposing a residency stipend of $3,000 per officer. ...

Heinlein suggested requiring Federal Service to vote.
I'd settle for requiring that one be a net tax payer to qualify to vote.
I would imagine that the homicide rate of police officers in Chicago is probably somewhat less than that of the overall population of the city, seeing as how they are about the only people who are 'legally' armed.
Of course, the dirty secret that can't be talked about regarding chicago and all these other high-murder hell-holes, is that the murders are talking place within a very small segment of the population.
Earn a pay raise.
Say reduce the murder rate to one a day?
