Another stupid law in an otherwise very safe city: in Irvine it is illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits. So if I shoot the suspect in self defense I would get arrested as well.

Maybe, but you'd be alive and he'd be dead, and I doubt the Irvine police, even with their silly law, would want the bad publicity of charging someone defending themself against a double murderer.

Actually, Chris, when I lived in West Irvine several years ago, they had had something like 5 murders in the West Irvine neighborhood alone, within one year.
Mostly Muslims killing family members.

you can legally discharge a gun if it's to protect life or property in Irvine... there are some exceptions... here is what i found:
Prohibition. It shall be unlawful for any person, other than peace officers and members of the armed forces and National Guard acting in their official line of duty, to shoot, fire or discharge, or for any person to cause or permit to be shot, fired or discharged, within the City, any rifle, shotgun, pistol, revolver or firearm, or BB gun, pellet gun and air rifle of any kind, except when it may be necessary to do so in order to protect life or property or to destroy or kill any predatory or dangerous animal.
