The common media view of the South is as a regressive region, full of overweight, prejudiced, exploited and undereducated numbskulls. This meme was perfectly captured in this Bill Maher-commissioned video from Alexandra Pelosi, the New York-based daughter of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Given the level of imbecility, maybe wed be better off if the former Confederate states exiled themselves into their own redneck empire. Travel writer Chuck Thompson recently suggested this approach in a new book. Right now, however, Northeners can content themselves with the largely total isolation of Southerners from the corridors of executive power.
Yet even as the old Confederacys political banner fades, its long-term economic prospects shine bright. This derives from factors largely outside the control of Washington: demographic trends, economic growth patterns, state business climates, flows of foreign investment and, finally and most surprisingly, a shift of educated workers and immigrants to an archipelago of fast-growing urban centers.
Perhaps the most persuasive evidence is the strong and persistent inflow of Americans to the South. The South still attracts the most domestic migrants of any U.S. region. Last year, it boasted six of the top eight states in terms of net domestic migration Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia. Texas and Florida alone gained 250,000 net migrants. The top four losers were deep blue New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California. These trends suggest that the South will expand its dominance as the nations most populous region. In the 1950s, the South, the Northeast and the Midwest each had about the same number of people. Today the region is almost as populous as the Northeast and the Midwest combined.

Just stay put Yanks, we don't want you.
You want this guy dating your daughter?
I suspect ‘domestic migrants’ include illegals who’ve slipped into the south via southwestern states first.
Yep, I agree. Turtle Man don't want ya, the alligator hunters don't want ya, the Cajuns don't want ya - all us ignorant crackers don't want ya. It's hot and humid down here. Our Sheriffs just take ya out back and shoot ya instead of jail ya. Yep, you wouldn't like it down here at all. We mostly pray, shoot guns and salute the American flag. You intellegent, career minded, liberal elitists should stay where you are.
Why is it that NO ONE actually wants to live under liberals/progressives and their insane governments?
Hopefully, all these “immigrants” from New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California don’t vote for liberals/progressives (and their policies) and turn their new home into the socialist hell-holes they just left.
And gawd help you if you own a house or business in New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California...
Being from NC I had some friends from other places. They always harp about how much better so many things are back home in Michigan, NY or Ohio or wherever. But move back. Hell no!!!! LOL
If all the liberals from northeastern blue states go south, maybe we can turn our northern states red again. Take’em with our blessings.
ROTFLMAO — That should scare the daylights out of most liberals.
There should be a law in the South, If you migrate here from one of the sinking Socialist states, you are not allowed to vote for 25 years. Perhaps by then, your re-education will be complete.
The South remains a bastion of decency and honor. Can we say the same for the people who vote the politicians in office in places like Chicago, NY, MA, and CA?
Texas is in the southwest, not the south.
All true enough, but the yankee b*stards will bring their liberalism with it. Treat it like the plague. They shat upon their own states, now they want to foul some others.
In Colorado (before it rotted into a blue state), there was a massive influx of Californians - such that a popular bumper sticker was “Don’t Californicate Colorado”. The acid and reefer dorks overwhelmed the state - and it’s now rapidly becoming a typical liberal cesspool.
I've always thought of I-35 as the unofficial east-west boundary, which sort of fits with the old saying that Dallas is where the East ends, and Fort Worth is where the West begins.
“Texas is in the southwest, not the south.”
and SC, GA, and AL are in the southeast, not the south.
We have enough yankees here in Atlanta already thank you very much.
I would rather not see the south rise again, that would not be a good thing for me.
It is ironic that the post-industrial north, now mired in social spending and with police tied up dealing with urban gangs is now slipping behind the south in economic power.
Don't be area-ist. I came from NY, but I brought to GA a net increase in conservative thinking.
