Barbara Walters has been in the hospital for more than a week after she fell and hit her head during pre-Inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C. and now the View co-host has contracted the chickenpox.
While doctors were monitoring Walters after her fall, they noticed her fever was not subsiding and eventually determined that it was due to chickenpox, according to The Associated Press.

You are correct, that can be a very nasty and painful long lasting illness in an older person. As much as I dislike Barbara Walters, I wouldnt wish this on anyone, well at least most. : )
When I was 27, my 1 year old daughter came down with chickenpox. She had maybe a dozen pox and never slowed down a bit. One week later I was down and out delirious with high fever and pox from head to toe. Forty years later she got shingles. One week later so did I. The gift that keeps on giving. When she was two, the mumps were going around. I grabbed her and we both went for mump shots. We didnt get mumps.
Although I remember having the Measles as a kid, Im not sure if I ever had Chicken Pox as a kid, not even sure if it was part of my childhood immunizations, dont have those records and both my parents are deceased. But just to be on the safe side, I recently got the vaccine. People who get Shingles cannot transmit Shingles to others but they can infect a non-immunized person or a person who has never had Chicken Pox, with Chicken Pox.
FWIW, my older brother nearly died from complications of the Mumps Meningitis.

Bawa wawa is a pox on humanity.
It is possible to lose immunity and catch them again late in life.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer hag.
The ‘I was dehydrated from a stomach virus, fainted and bumped my head’ excuse was already taken.
Although, actually going to the hospital does add a whole new dimension to things.
Lets see if her driver turns around and goes back to the hospital once she is discharged. And if she is wearing a visor a la Lt. Cmdr. Geordi La Forge like Hill is.
At this age, thought it is manifested as shingles.
And I care, why? Take Whoopie Cushion with you.
I got the chicken pox in my thirties. Never been sicker in my whole life. Thought I was going to die.
At her age I would say it could easily be fatal.
Although I had every other childhood disease, I never got the mumps, even though my 2 brothers had it and we all slept in the same room then. I have had aseptic meningitis, which was horrible....
Prayers up for the 1st Lady of Telejournalism! (CLEARS THROAT).

Isn’t Mrs Wawa unmarried now? And how many unlucky husbands has she buried? No matter. Do lishping shingles get shingles?
Shingles, eh?
At her age wouldn’t she have the shingles not the chickenpox, same virus different affect?
And here I was hoping it was Mumps so her
testicles would never drop.....or something.
You can get chicken pox multiple times. I’ve had it 3 times, possibly 4. Got all my childhood illnesses as an adult. Zoster is the only one I’ve had more than once.
For those of you out there who think you can only get it once, it’s not true. Yes, they teach that in medical school but they teach a lot of baloney in medical school. Some good stuff too.
Sure a lot of falling going on among liberal females!
