I don’t get how this will ever be bad for cable companies. If they don’t sell enough cable tv subscriptions they’ll simply raise the cost of internet...it still has to come through their cable. Same with FIOS or other technologies. Or am I missing something?
I want it to be bad for TV production companies too. All they do is make crap these days.
They can’t control the content. You watch what you want and pay for what you want. I pay $41 a month for internet service. I was paying 41+91 and I didn’t have any pay channels. Now I still get Fox(however I have disconnected mentally from the news) and movie channels. I pay $7.99 for Netflix. That’s it. We have hooked up an antenae so we get all the local channels. Bam! Total outlay was $120. Oh and relatively NO COMMERCIALS!!! Downside is sports channels are not up to snuff yet.
It won't be long before service providers start charging by the GBs downloaded, much like ISPs of old used to charge by the minute.
I'm about ready to cut off cable. I just don't watch more than an hour of cable TV in a month. With my two PS3s, I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime, my kids watch these as well as youtube videos and my wife watches Russian-language shows from a TVoIP console hooked up to the TV. The flip side is our home sucks up a lot of bandwidth that is subsidized by those other folks who use very little. As more and more people cut the cord, bandwidth is going to go through the roof!
