Democratic lawmakers plan to formally reintroduce a bill Thursday that would ban military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, the most ambitious and politically risky element of proposals unveiled by President Obama to limit gun violence.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2013″ is similar to one passed in 1994 that expired with little protest in 2004. The measure will be unveiled Thursday morning by a slate of Democratic co-sponsors, led by longtime gun control advocates Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (N.Y.), who have pushed for the ban before in part because of their personal histories with gun violence.
The bill is a far-reaching attempt to rein in the use of such weapons by prohibiting the sale, transfer and manufacturing of more than 100 specific weapons, including certain semiautomatic rifles, handguns and shotguns that can hold detachable magazines or hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Aides said Wednesday that sponsors were still sorting out specific details of the bill to make the package as politically tenable as possible.
But supporters face an uphill climb in a Congress stacked with Republicans and moderate Democrats who support Second Amendment rights and rely on political support from the National Rifle Association and other gun groups to win reelection. Regardless, Feinstein and McCarthy plan to press ahead.

This will end badly.
If McCarthy’s LATE husband had been armed when Colin Ferguson started shooting on that LIRR train, he might still be alive and that fool of a wife would be home tending to the house instead of trying to disarm all of us.
Republicans could be pro active and in the House, pass a bill that says the rights of American gun owners will be protected including defense weapons such as the AR 15 and the 30 round clips they came with.

I just unveiled this to those lawmakers.
Why is it that every time some mental case shoots people, the first reaction of our politicians is to try to take everyone’s guns who DIDN’T commit the crime?
That’s a rhetorical question, because all of the most serious gun-grabbers are extreme liberals, all of whom believe that the government should rule us, rather than have the government serve us...and if we get too uppity about how they’re spending our money or how they’re regulating us to death, then they don’t want to face any resistance when they send their goons to drag us off to jail.
I am not comfortable with allowing Congress to define the scope of our rights. A better solution might be to let Congress rule where it has legitimate power - they can define the general militia to be all men and women over the age of 18 who are not felons, and addressing the "well regulated" part, Congress can define the AR-15 or similar platform as the standard weapon for the general militia.
You have the 2nd Amendment right to own any other arm you feel you'd like or need, but you have the duty to keep an AR as part of the general militia.
Of course we all agree the insane should not have access to firearms.
But this is a Trojan horse.
Once the government can deny firearms ownership based upon this loosely defined term “mental illness,” how easy will it be for the government to deem as dangerously paranoid (mentally ill) anyone who does not trust the government and who vocalizes support for the 2nd Amendment as a means of preventing tyranny in government?
The analogy is that of MADD trying to prevent drunk driving by making it difficult or impossible for sober drivers to purchase automobiles.
Obviously analytical skills are not this guy's forte.
Manchin Statement on White House Mass Violence Proposals
Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) issued the following statement today in response to the White House proposals on mass violence:
I appreciate the work that went into the Presidents recommendations. I have not had a chance to review them yet, because I have been meeting with West Virginians today to discuss school safety and the culture of mass violence that has permeated our society today. I will weigh each recommendation carefully.
However, I am disappointed that the President did not recommend the creation of the national commission on mass violence that I have proposed. A national commission can build the consensus we need for real action backed not only by gun control advocates, mental health experts and entertainment industry executives but also by law-abiding gun owners who fully understand the history and heritage of firearms in America. Violence destroys the dignity, hopes and lives of millions of Americans, and we have a unique opportunity to stop this epidemic but only if we can put politics aside and have an honest and effective conversation about what to do about our culture of mass violence.
Soooooo ...
This NRA endorsed, "A+" rated individual wants "real action backed by gun control advocates", eh? There's some real pro-gun leadership, there. That's a real Voice for Freedom in Washington. That's quite the dedicated defender of the Second Amendment. Right???
Bullcrap!!!!
Hey, Joe! How about we not pass any new gun controls at all? Law-abiding gun owners who fully understand the history and heritage of firearms in America will not accept any gun bans, any restrictions on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, any infringements on our ability to defend ourselves against criminals and tyrants.
In fact, that's the wrong discussion!
Instead, let's start REPEALING gun bans. Start with the idiotic, misguided, and misnamed "Gun Free School Zones Act". Show some real leadership, Joe. Repeal it. For the children.
Because, Joe, if letting teachers actually defend their students saves even one life, it's worth it.
Right?
Joe?
It is easy to BAN something.(Soda, Guns, High Capacity Magazines, Ammo)
Enforcement is the Big Problem (remember Probation?) Will we end up with Boot Leg Guns & Ammo??
Will the Fed’s come and break down our doors, shoot our Dogs, Search & Seize our papers, computers, Guns, Ammo, Bibles & books all without a lawful warrant?
Then what? Will they come for you & your Wife and Kids?
Will they make you get on the Train for a ride to the work camp after they have taken ALL of your Money, Car, House and everything you have worked so very hard to get.
When will we wake up and Draw the line in the Sand and say No more, you will not pass this line. They will not break the 2nd Amendment, they will NOT TAKE MY GUNs.

I don't recall much protest of its expiration in 2004 ... I and many others protested it for years before it was passed at X-42's urging in 1994.
I’m seriously thinking about starting my own focus group of DAMM (Drunks Against Mad Mothers). Heck, let’s open up #18 again. A breath-alyzer in every car. Just in case you had a beer. Or you had a case of beer. How about we nail all windows shut above the first floor to prevent falls out of them? How about no tire pressure above 10psi to prevent injury from “exploding” tires? Sadly we can’t legislate away stupid.
Breaking on Fox now. All the losers in one place. Where is a drone when you need one ?
My fear, as I posted on another thread is of Panetta’s putting female personnel in combat. A judeo/christian country is taught to protect, not shoot, young girls and if they are the combat military troops coming for your guns - well hesitation can be deadly.
I feel that the end of the communists in the Democratic Party is about to end. So goes the corruption we have in Government. The Republicans should take note that there are millions of Americans that are getting real tired of this control over our lives. Guns will prevail, one way or another. Washington better wise up and damn quick.
