USPS: Minorities and retired military. I read somewhere recently that the USPS really needs to shed 250,000 positions. I just hope that the one’s in my local PO are on the list. They go out of their way to treat the patrons with as much disrespect as they can get away with. These jerks watch the clock and don’t stay at their station one second into their breaks!

TRUE...but based on what our postman told us directly. Our downtown office is close by one of the busiest hubs in America, the L.A. Alameda office, and this dude (yeah, he’s a black dude) claims they are overwhelmed and “hiring”.

I go to the post office a couple of days a week and the people who work there are minorities but they really are nice and they do work hard. Now there is another Po 2 cities over and they are also minorities but they are total slackers.

My local PO is crap, also. Mail delivery is really quite good, however. Most mail gets across town in one day, and we’re talking ATL metro here, so it’s a pretty good sized “town”.

There is obviously a lot of room for improvement / cost cutting. I’m all for eliminating Saturday mail delivery, for instance. Move the big stuff behind the scenes, keep the Saturday hours at the PO, but kill local delivery.

yup ~ the closeout procedures or accountable stock and cash are pretty exacting. The clerks at postal retail workstations have a tad more to do than your typical grocery cashier ~ so when it’s time to close out, they close out ~
