Federal prosecutors have filed a fraud charge against Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway, just a few days before she leaves the state's highest court in a scandal involving the sale of a Detroit-area home and suspicious steps taken to conceal property in Florida.
[...]
Hathaway was halfway through an eight-year term on the court, the result of a major election upset over then-Chief Justice Cliff Taylor in 2008. Her victory put Democrats in control of the court for a two-year period. She was a Wayne County judge before joining the Supreme Court.

She will be going from living in two very big houses to considerably less lavish living accommodations. Jail.
All the school shooters were dems or children of dems too...
Ideas have consequences... New Orleans mayor was on the take too... Dem cities have the most crime.
Chances are she won’t spend a minute in jail.
These people ALWAYS protect their own.
She should. As the article put it...
If she walked into a bank with a note and demanded $500,000 and then was caught, she would go to jail.
Essentially, that is what she did, except for the part about actually walking into a bank branch. She used a piece of paper to steal a lot of money.
She sounds like a typical Democrat attorney to me.
It wasn’t just bad judgement. It looks like she engaged in fraud, concealing a major asset ($600K Florida home) by transferring to her kid, before negotiating with the bank over her Florida home, which means bank fraud.
That's probably why Holder's people did federal charges. It protects her from state charges (double jeopardy). Then, Holder can stall the case for a couple of years, and quietly drop it.
Good thing the case did not start in Michigan. Probably in Florida when it began, no one knew her position in Michigan.
She must be a pretty poor attorney...she can quit claim the property but she cannot quit claim the indenture which is a lien on the property and in her name.
Holder won’t need to forestall it either, just apply the Corzine template: Democrat or Republican. If Democrat dismiss the case.
Surprised the feds did not cover this up. Usually the Obama “Justice” Department protects its own...some kind of screw-up.
In Michigan, members of the Supreme Court are nominated by the two parties and run on a non-partisan ballot...I’m not kidding...she was selected by the Dems because of her long, leggy look, she carries herself like a platform model...of course the low information Dem voters went for her.
Now look at what they’ve got.
Talk about crazy eyes, enjoy your time in the slammer.
The short sale in Michigan allowed the couple to erase nearly $600,000 in mortgage debt on the $1.5-million Grosse Pointe Park home, which eventually sold for $850,000. The debt-free Windermere, Fla., home then went back into their names.
The maximum penalty on conviction of bank fraud is 30 years in prison.
Hathaway, 58, filed retirement papers with the state
********
Retiring at 58. A soft lannding if there ever was one.
The silver lining is Snyder will probably appoint the next Conservative runner-up that missed out in 2012. His or Her name escapes me.

One notable thing about Dems — they have deep streaks of envy in them. Nearly all of the Dems I know and have worked with had an entitlement like attitude about money. They think they deserve the trappings of wealth, and lots of it. After all, they consider themselves superior to the rest of the masses so its no surprise when you see them taking ethical and legal shortcuts to get it.

Not if you’re a Democrat in good standing with the Party. Very unlikely she’ll ever do any real time.
