Prof. Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School is a legendary defense lawyer, and the country's foremost pro-Israel advocate. He is also a steadfast supporter of President Barack Obama. Breitbart News spoke to him in an exclusive interview today about the nomination of former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) as Secretary of Defense.
Sen. Hagel is controversial for his views on Israel, the Iraq War, Iran, and gays, among other issues. Dershowitz had, prior to Hagel's nomination, urged President Obama publicly not to appoint Hagel to the position.
Breitbart News: Does the Hagel nomination represent a slap in the face to the pro-Israel community?
Dershowitz: No--I think it's a heartfelt decision by the President, based on his personal relationship with Hagel. I think its a policy mistake. And I'm not the only person who thinks its a policy mistake. There are several people within the White House who urged him not to do it.
And I'm opposed to him for one primary reason, and that is [Hagel's appointment] is going to send the wrong message to the Iranian mullahs. They could easily misunderstand that the President is backing away from his commitment not to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons, because Hagel has opposed keeping a military option on the table.
And it's the wrong time to send mixed messages to those who are looking for an excuse for misunderstanding.
Breitbart News: Who were the opposing voices among Democrats and the administration?

Dershowitz: did you come out against Obama.
a tersely worded letter would do just as well
I’m sorry but Alan Dershowitz can’t be all that bright of he’s so easily fooled by Obama’s BS motives for nominating Hagel. Either every single democrat is a gullible sucker or they are just plain stupid.
That is the message.
But if you are naive enough to vote for Obama I guess you won't catch on to his agenda. -tom
You are right. How smart can someone be when they cannot see through Obama.Millions in America suffering from some strange illusion that Obama means well.
Somebody better watch Obama's other hand.
...or more of Obama causing mischief among Republicans.
Dershowitz is a mess. Who in their right mind could believe this: “Robert Gates was, in my view, the worst Secretary of Defense in modern history”? Or is Robert McNamara considered ancient history now?
Although (the drunk) Hagel’s position against Israel is important, if the Republicans really want to stop this nomination, they should play up all of his anti-gay remarks he’s made over the years, that will get more media play and capture the intolerant angle more than the anti-Israel angle will.
If Hagel is rejected, Obama’s backup candidate is probably PeeWee Herman.

Obama making a policy mistake? Isn’t that his strategy? Egypt was our ally before he took office. Now look. Egypt is 0bama’s friend but not Israel’s or the U.S.’s..

“Prof. Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School is an overrated defense lawyer, and the country’s most pompous purported pro-Israel advocate. He is also a steadfast supporter of President Barack Obama, which puts the lie to the previous sentence.”
Fixed.
Or they hope the public is. The public is, so there’s “hope” for you.
Some things, I just can’t read. This is one of the more obtrusive, asininely stupid reports I’ve ever glanced at. I will say it again: Stupidity should HURT!
I really wished someone would knock that arrogant pos of his high horse
Dersh comes across in this interview as an equivocating, mealy-mouthed partisan jackass.
IMHO, that’s not a coincidence.
His job will be to raise some objections to make it look like he has credibility, and then the Hagel nomination will be confirmed.
Thanks Kaslin.

This is a great example of Orwellian Doublethink. One cannot support our dog-eating, homosexual agenda pushing Chairman Obama and support Israel. It’s kind of like supporting the African National Congress and Freedom Front in South Africa, or in Israel’s case, supporting Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas.
Here in the States, two and two make five, six, or whatever you want it to be.
