Cocooning Is the Wrong Solution for Conservatives
The American Thinker ^ | James G. Wiles

Posted on 01/06/2013 11:44:14 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

.......... the United States needs its conservative leaders and activists in the public square now more than at any time in our lifetimes. If we hold on, we'll win. Blue State America is doomed, and the blue-staters represented by President Obama and his party cannot save it.

...... we red-staters must remain fully involved and fully engaged in American politics and culture.

This is especially true after a year like 2012 -- when we lose. Better to quote U.S. General Joseph Stilwell after the loss of Burma to the Japanese. "I claim," Vinegar Joe said, "we took a hell of beating[.] ... [I]t is as humiliating as hell. We need to find out what caused it, go back and re-take it."

The biggest mistake we can make is to stay in our own echo chamber and to talk only to each other. There was already too much of that in 2012......

....... We need to read -- and refute with facts -- the other side's stuff as well.

And engage with it.

Facts are bullets in the war of ideas. And to find facts, we have to look everywhere for them -- not just our own outlets. Winning the 2014 elections and beyond means we have to recruit and proselytize young and/or disaffected or unregistered voters.

It is necessary to go out and engage the culture. Join Democratic FB pages. Visit Progressive websites. Proselytize and organize, registering conservative voters, recruiting conservative candidates, joining in canvassing and GOTV efforts. If you live in a safe red state, go volunteer or donate in an adjoining blue state.

If you live and work in a blue state, fly your colors proudly. Every day......

Above all, let us project confidence. Take joy in the battle. And finally, let us prepare diligently for next time.....

While many market failures have political roots there are also many that happen with no government involvement whatsoever, i.e. Microsoft and the Ford Pinto.

You think Microsoft and the Ford Pinto are markets? My gosh, this is going to be a fun day......

Does this mean you believe you're to the left of "moderate" Barack O'Bambi?

I certainly am.

Yes, I believe reality.

I guess I'll remind you again, and yes, this is fun........who else would possibly consider him moderate? The members of Daily KOS? Hugo Chavez? Karl Marx?

Definition of delusional: Delusional (adjective) means suffering from or characterized by delusions (a false belief or opinion).

by definition, they are an economic illiterate.

You called it, even before he said Microsoft and the Pinto were "markets".....

I'd call him worse, but he might cry.

No, you said something extremely foolish, it's for all to see, you made a fool of yourself on this forum entirely on your own.

Sorry about that.......

p. sure the one not understanding that Microsoft engaging in predatory practices and the Ford Motor Company selling grenades on wheels are examples of private failures in the market is the foolish one. But carry on!

This is where you fell right into my trap, my little liberal friend: markets are indeed PURE, but they are not PERFECT. This is where little utopians get all messed up - trying to impose perfection on a world that clearly will never be. Markets are pure becuase they are by definition the result of millions of decisions made in freedom based on everybody’s best interests. Pure indeed.

only when they are infected do they become impure, and that is only when coercion by government perverts them.

The Pinto was pure: the market rejected it. Microsoft tried to pervert the market, but that does not change the TRUTH that markets are PURE and by definition they can be nothing else ever.

Pinto: A car only a birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging, tie-dyed, liberal hippie could love.

Let me see.....

I post to your silly post about the rich young ruler, saying leftists are hypocrites because they rarely actually give money or aid to the poor, nor help them personally in any way and you post back to commenter CEW (who agreed with my post) about....... market failures......

Look it up, that's the posting sequence.

And somehow you think you and your ilk are smart.

Pardon me while I go laugh hysterically.

And pardon me but I need to attend to other things right now.

IF only they had made hybrid Pinto’s, the tree huggers would have had their perfect car!

Lake and I are not babbling, its just that you, as the little child here, cannot understand what the adults are saying. Time to put on your jammies and go to bed now....the adults have some more work to do.
