I’ve never made it before Gram, but our pastor gave out apples and oranges to everyone at church during Christmas. He had a few dozen left over and gave them to me to do something with. They aren’t sour, just typical run-of-the-mill oranges. I found a pretty simple recipe for canning marmalade and figured I’d try it. I suppose the lemon adds the sour.

There is a bayou directly behind my house. It is where we walk the dog. There is an orange tree in a neighbor’s back yard. There were oranges hanging over the back of the fence. The tree was loaded with oranges. I asked myself, “Why do these people not pick their oranges?” I gathered as many as I could carry and rushed home to eat them. It was a big disappointment because the oranges that I had ‘stolen’ were sour. There is such a thing as ‘sour oranges’ and sour orange trees. I searched the internet and found that sour oranges are used to make marmalade. They are also used in cooking many Chinese foods.
