I am bringing 44 years experience living with a man who could sound as respectful as this man most of the time, but after what he said I began to see subtle signs just like what I see in this letter.

I think he would have written the same letter minus the ma’am to anyone male or female.....It just happens she is the one pushing this legislation in a hardcore fashion, and her hypocrisy in owning her own gun is enought to make you puke.....I give equal opportunity to everyone when it comes to hypocrisy and trampling on the 2nd amendment and I think this soldier feels the same way.....

I, a woman, didn’t think his letter was disrespectful to women in general at all.

Seems strange to me that you’d even focus on that.

I don’t feel that his contempt is directed toward all women, just to the one he wrote the letter to.We must all be careful that our life experience doesn’t taint our judgement.

Regardless, no one is perfect, not even the hero who steps forward while those crouched in fear often find fault with his actions.

Perhaps your husband did act inappropriately, but one has to ask, who, why, and what, was the instigation. I bet he has a different take on the story.

And your husband had to put up with 44 years with someone who casually tosses around il-defined phrases like “attitude towards women” without ever concidering the possiblity of having an attitude towards men.

Today, the worst chauvinists in existence are women, and they’re even worse than their male predecessors because they think their bigotry is somehow justified.

The ability to convince yourself you are right is not the same as proving he was wrong.

I believe his comment was directed at Feinstein, not women in general, there are times we read too much into things. Right now unless things change, I take it at face value.

Way too sensitive. Women really say stupid things too. I’m sure you were perfect

All real men will have some similarities with each other but we are all different individuals from each other. These “subtle signs” you mention are a projection of your own experience with your husband onto this man who is likely very different from your former husband. It is true that both this man and your husband are/were military men and both will have warrior(sheep dog protective instincts) that some of us “civvies” may find that are irritating. Yet this marine is not your husband and you can not judge his personality just because his straight forward manner as expressed in a letter reminds you somehow of a side of your husband that you found to be unpleasant.

Did your husband develop dementia? You mention living 44 years with him and that he had at one time been in Korea. The Home Depot store started in the late 80’s early 90’s so we’re talking about a man in his 50’s or early 60’s when the incident you described happened? The social revolutions have left a lot men in that generation of Korean vets out of the loop where-as women, even their own wives of that generation and beyond have received great benefits from those cultural changes.

The bottom line is you can’t judge all men by who your husband is or was....and none of us will ever know what you might have been like to live with!
