What’s wrong with me that I find canard designs so pretty?
That one is unusual in that the canard is shifted so far to the rear, but I could see immediately how that helps high AOA aspects on the main wing.

Nothing wrong with you... you find it pretty because it's good engineering. I don't know why, but with planes and boats it seems that the best designs also happen to be the prettiest.
Ask a boatbuilder for his definition of the word "fair" sometime... but don't ask if you don't have an hour to sit and listen, because the answer is tied up in some combination of "graceful" and "efficient" that only God and finite element analysis can understand.
