they heard automatic weapon fire..they knew it was a high powered rifle.

Did one of the children have the automatic weapon? If it was actually a high power rifle was 7.62x39 or .308 or what?

The shooter had a 5.56x45, small caliber, fairly low power semi-automatic rifle.

the .223 does fairly zip along ~3100 or so fps.

so its not what I’d call low power. I’d call .22 .25 or
.32 low lowered.
