Actually wouldn't it be "Why not ban box cutters because of the 9/11 tragedies?". To the lefties the person is never responsible it is always the machine whether it be guns or SUVs. They operate on their own and are responsible for death and mayhem. I would agree to banning guns when the left agrees to banning autos. Many more annual auto deaths annually than done by guns. Take on the machine doing the most killing first - most bank for the limited Fed buck.
