No, if you cash a check or make a witdrawl of 10K or more from YOUR OWN checking account the FERAL government wants to be notified.

I ran into this in 2010 when I cashed a check for some overtime back pay in excess of 25K. Told the Teller I wanted cash and she said I had to fill the government form to report it. I asked if I put in my checking and then withdrew it would I have to fill it out she said, yes.

Not sure when it was put into place. Stinking government.

Might have changed since Feb. ‘08. All I had to do was make out a check to myself to get the cash. The bank wasn’t too happy since I didn’t give them prior notice, but that was the only problem. Whether the bank notified the gov’t. or not, I have no idea. I kept the final statement on that acct. (showing the withdrawal) in case I ever have to show where the cash came from if I have to use it in a $10K + transaction.
