Matt Damon's film is set to intensify debate on fracking
As one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors with a reputation for straight-talking, he has made little secret of his willingness to confront thorny political and social issues.
Now Matt Damon is facing off against one of America's most powerful institutions - the oil and gas industry - in a film that represents a new battleground for environmentalists' campaigns against fracking.
Promised Land, which goes on nationwide release in the US this week, is set to intensify debate on the controversial drilling technique to such an extent that the industry has prepared a public relations campaign of its own to mitigate the film's impact.
The movie, directed by Gus Van Sant, tells the story of a smooth-talking oil company 'land-man' dispatched to a rural and economically depressed Pennsylvania community to persuade residents to sign over their mineral rights, armed with a company chequebook. What seemed an easy task becomes complicated by locals' objections and, ultimately, the landman's own crisis of conscience.
Fracking - or hydraulic fracturing - relies on forcing millions of gallons of water mixed with sand and chemicals deep underground at high pressure, breaking layers of shale rock to release oil and gas.

The Saudi prince Matt Damon
This will get Damon a night or two in the Lincoln bedroom. He’s just a left-wing nut who has tanked for Bronco Bama and his cronies.
Fixed it
Socialist propaganda designed to further damage our economy and transfer money to third world countries.
Dammon is a useful idiot. He has no clue about fracking other than what his fellow useful idiots tell him to say.
The list of Hollywood people I can stomach watching anymore gets smaller and smaller each day.
Mr. Damon is apparently trying to use his scientific knowledge of energy production in a manner similar to the way noted Nuclear Scientist Ms. Fonda used hers to destroy an industry.
Star of what?
Daniel Craig would be a better actor for Jason Borne.
Saw the trailer. Even it made it look like this movie is going to suck. Another Hollywood celebrity propaganda piece like China Syndrome or Norma Rae. I’ll stick with “Last Ounce Of Courage”. The hippies can keep Damon’s crock.
It's a British publication. They tend to be honest about those things in contrast to our MSM.
Bottom line: they’ll lie through their teeth about fracking to convince a public moronic enough to reelect Obama to oppose it.
Utterly despicable on multiple levels, especially for the use of conservative iconography (family farms, intact red-state families who drive pickups etc etc etc) in the service of a Stalinist collectivist agenda.
Remember when films were entertainment, and not Obama socialism commercials.
Well some stars have always been liberal message carriers, stars like Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey, they made some God-awful liberal trash, but mostly Hollywood was entertaining.
I haven’t been in a movie theater in years, last good movie I saw was Sea Biscuit.

Here come the “he’s a great actor, but..” bootlickers.
Well this one should be about as accurate and about as entertaining as The Day After Tomorrow.
Well, Michael Medved likes him and said lovely things about him and his movies the other day, so there’s proof that he’s a liberal tool.
