Chicago soon will have the nations most expensive downtown parking meters.
On New Years Day, meters in the citys downtown Loop area will begin charging $6.50 an hourup from $5.75.

$6.50 per hour is almost half of some peoples hourly salaries.
Reason number 359 for not going into the city.
A nice summer afternoon near Diversey and LSD, a Chicagoan using his fist, smashed the side window of a parked car to steal a handful of CD’s.
If he was 0bama’s son, by the size of him,he sure took after the mothers side.
Something a few people know if you drive a car with tinted windows that are legal in other states and recently made legal in IL, Chicago still applies the old tint regulations to any car including out of state vehicles. It is a $250 find to tint. The tint law there is you cannot have any kind of tint on the front side windows.
I would not drive into Chicago these days with their outrageous parking rates and fines. And I have dark tinting on my cars as well. The crooks there can do without my money.
No problem, these take credit cards. Still, the funny part is, most women can’t seem to figure out how to work the parking meters, and we’ve had them for a couple of years. Every time I go to a lot with these meters, at least one meter has a woman (or group of women) standing in front of it for 5 minutes or more, because they don’t bother to read the instructions printed clearly in front of their eyes.
You’re supposed to tell the meter how much time you want, then put the money it. Instead, the ladies seem to always put the money in first, which just locks the machine up until they get smart enough to cancel the transaction and try again.
With these new rates will Chicago still find it necessary to mail out bogus parking tickets to people who have not been to the City?
I live in Arlington Hieghts too. I vowed never to go to Chicago again. Downtown Arlington heights is nice. Carlos and Carlos is a great Italian restaurant.
and when you see a road sign that says, “no trucks”, they mean pick up trucks too, no matter how small and if you’re driving your little S-10 on one of those roads, you will be fined the same as a semi.
It happened to me in the 70s(and a lot of other people too) I ignored the ticket but they count on a lot of people to just pay it. Quite a racket.
I haven't been in a long time but the Brookfield Zoo used to be worth the trip. I'm sure their entry fees have sky rocketed by now.
I live a little closer to the St. Louis Zoo - no entry fee.
I just looked up the ticket price, it would be $60 per day for my wife, me and two kids over 12 years old.
It was pop 40k when our Family moved to NJ, in ‘67; now it’s doubled and everything is built-up, everywhere. Totally unrecognizable. I won’t go back, either.
See the post before yours. The government doesn’t see the cc #s. they are far more corrupt than that.
As someone else noted, all this revenue goes to a private company now, not to the city. They sold the rights to the parking meters to that company for a cash payment up front in order to plug a budget shortfall. The city still collects from ordinary, non-meter related tickets, so they will probably have to double up on the fraudulent ones to make up the difference now.
