After working as a dental assistant for ten years, Melissa Nelson was fired for being too "irresistible" and a "threat" to her employer's marriage.
"I think it is completely wrong," Nelson said. "I think it is sending a message that men can do whatever they want in the work force."
On Friday, the all-male Iowa State Supreme Court ruled that James Knight, Nelson's boss, was within his legal rights when he fired her, affirming the decision of a lower court.
"We do think the Iowa Supreme Court got it completely right," said Stuart Cochrane, an attorney for James Knight. "Our position has always been Mrs. Nelson was never terminated because of her gender, she was terminated because of concerns her behavior was not appropriate in the workplace. She's an attractive lady. Dr. Knight found her behavior and dress to be inappropriate."

If he was getting the hots over her and felt it wise to part company from her, what was he supposed to do with this “mother.” Call her (presumably around) husband and explain?
Agree.
There was no claim that she did anything wrong, just that the two of them couldn’t work together any longer.
One of them had to go, and it’s not like he could fire himself.
>Wonder what he does to his irresistible patients.
Maybe assists with oral examinations?
I doubt very much if she would be interested.
And it’s not like the Dentist could quit his job — she’d be out of a job anyway, and the Dentist would move to a “new job” and get a new assistant, and everything would be exactly as it is now.
The point of this isn’t to feel bad for the woman. It’s just the next stage in the “War on Women” brainwashing. Note the “all-male Supreme Court”. Like if there was a woman on the court, they’d rule “correctly”.
What exactly they should have ruled, doesn’t matter. The democrats will now run for “fairness” in the courts, the senate will, if there ever is republican control, filibuster any non-female supreme court justice until the court is “balanced” so women like this won’t suffer at the hands of “all-male courts”.
I
This picture looks 10 years old. Needless to say, I’d volunteer to fill her cavities.
Resisting an attraction like this is highly stressful. I’m not entirely sure I’d want my dentist highly stressed by the presence of his assistant.
"...me thinks me posted wrong Melissa"
A dental assistant I have met looks like a twenty something
year old version of Janine Turner. Mrs Dentist would have had
her canned year ago.
Killjoy.
You may be right. That one IS irresistably hot. The other one, not so much. If you have the other one’s contact info, I’d much appreciate it. I’m ronery.
Opinions vary. I find #2 very cute, but not irresistably hot.
Cuteness and hotness are rated on different scales, though some score high on both.
Don’t care. Cute, hot, whatever. I want her number.
This dentist is an arrogant SOB who sexually harassed a married woman with kids, the husband should of beat his soul right out of him when the dentist said he would end up having an affair with his wife, this SOB thinks he can have any woman he pleases, even if they are married, what an arrogant piece of filth!
What a load of crap. Seems there was much more going on here. She allegedly is discussing her sex life with her boss. He obviously is fantasizing about her and outwardly says so. He flirts with her and makes suggestive remarks to her. His wife must have been jealous of the assistant. So they decided based upon their own insecurities and projections that the assistant had to go. In my views, scrubs are not all that revealing unless the assistant was buying them a size or two too small and there is no indication of this in the article.
So, if the court says it “was clear...terminating her was not related to the fact she was a woman”, then how could she be viewed as a threat? What kind of threat? If the assistant had been a man, wouldn’t he also be a threat to the dentist’s marriage since the dentist’s wife worked there? If these really were “religious and moral” people as the article suggests, then why didn’t the dentist and his wife sit down with the assistant and explain his/their situation and concerns and then help her to find another position [even if it took a reasonable amount of time] instead of canning her with a paltry 30 days severance. Seems to me the pastor’s advice apparently wasn’t all that well thought out either. But, all this is subjective conjecture on my part since I do not have the salient and specific facts.
If her behavior and dress were not appropriate then that is a totally normal reason to fire her. These headlines are ridiculous yellow journalism.
A burkha in her wardrobe would fix that.
Excellent summation.
it’s called unprofessional behavior.
Refusing to dress modestly, talking to people at an inappropriate distance are two things that come to mind.
