Mayor Emanuel has released a fiery statement denouncing the National Rifle Association for advocating armed police in about every school.
Rahm Emanuel prepared an unusually strong statement, even by his standards.
Its outrageous and unsettling that the NRA would choose to address gun violence not by taking assault weapons off our streets, but by adding more guns to our schools, " the mayor said in a statement.
The statement went on to say "that is not the right answer for our society, our schools and most importantly our children. People across this country, from small towns to big cities, are united and ready to pass common-sense gun control legislation.
The mayor says the time has come for the NRA to get on board or get out of the way.
Its worth noting that for many years, many Chicago high schools have had armed police and metal detectors.
Thanks for the quotes, been looking for them.
The Usual Suspects are against sensible security. How come there is never a mass shooting/Killing at Gun Shows or Police Conventions? The “Madmen” shooters are just not that stupid as to commit suicide before they can do ultimate damage. So if Gun Free Zones is where they like to shoot best, what ever will they do if the Gun Free Zones are armed?
With Liberals Gun Control is not about safety it is about Control.
I'll agree with you there, Skippy. The society you liberals have created since the 60s is a disgrace. Armed police in our schools probably wouldn't be enough. We should probably set up claymores around the school perimeter too.
LaPierre’s approach today was in two stages, in case anyone missed it. He rightfully argued for immediate action. Naturally, this would be accomplished with existing trained local law enforcement. Second, he stated that the NRA Model Plan would include tax free professional training for school personnel and community leaders so they can take over the security demands in the future. This sounds like a rational plan to me.
I wouldn’t use this guy as an example...lied about his background by saying he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. School researched and asked him to leave the grounds after finding out he never deployed and left the service after only 9 months. Can you say Stolen Valor...?
Is there any place on that site to leave comments? I couldn’t find any
If the goal is to get as many guns as possible "off the street," I have to inform you that you're going about it all wrong. If you want to get the most guns off the street in "one shot" (no pun intended), what you need to do is disarm the police department of Chicago. After all, it will be difficult to find the people using the guns illegally, and once you do find them, my guess is that they'll object to turning them in. But if you go to every police officer and say "turn in your guns," you'll get the most bang for your buck (again, no pun intended). I'm sure you have a long list with every police officer's name and what sort of gun he carries, so by disarming the police, you'll get a tremendous number of guns "off the streets."
Of course, since your personal body-guards are probably armed, and you probably know them by name, you wouldn't even need to look them up to disarm them, and get them to turn in their guns first!

How can you say that? He strongly chastised the gang members on TV and asked them to limit their killing to each other, and to do it away from Chicago schools.

And Obama said not long ago that the problem was small handguns in Chicago.
Rahm needs a swift kick in the south side. His record speaks for itself - he has absolutely no room to talk on issues of gun control vs. murder.
Apparently Twinkletoes doesn’t spend Fri and Sat nights walking the streets of the South Side talking sense into his peeps and getting them disarmed.
Sharp objects wielded by attack ballerina morons are known to cut off fingers.
