... there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe.
By comparison, America has an estimated rate of 466 violent crimes per 100,000 population.

Stupid. Anybody who reads about knife fighting knows where the points are that kill.
And all it takes is a 1/2 inch blade, front or back, even low inside the leg. 3-min death.
The example you cited (boat captain knowingly exposing crew to unnecessary peril) could be construed as an assault (among other things). The degrees of assault are defined according to state law.
I do wonder if you have ever spent any time in the US and have any concept of what a safety-conscious nation this is, down to the level of our construction codes, police and fire funding, etc., etc.
But, I digress.
Really?. You have just had twenty little children blasted to death, and the biggest ire seems to be about keeping weapons....
What "ire" are we supposed to have?
I don't know if you are familiar with Dr. Thomas Sowell, but if you're going to comment on a US conservative website you should be. In his column entitled "Invincible Ignorance" he discusses differences between the US and Britain on the gun question. Have a look at it: http://jewishworldreview.com/cols/sowell121812.php3
I'd be interested in your reaction.

I have.
Is there anyone here or in America who seriously thinks that the UK is a violent country OR that the UK is much more violent than the US?.
‘What “ire” are we supposed to have?’
My point was that you were saying that America and Americans would be asking questions about rising crime rates, but I frankly dont see much evidence of that. And I pointed out that despite increasing horrible attacks like the one in Newtown or Denver, the biggest flapping of gums seems to be more about keeping guns than asking why these events are happening.
‘I’d be interested in your reaction.’
Its an excellent article, and I like Sowell. Its nice to read an American voice from the right that actually knows about Britain. Some of the conservative stuff I have read about guns post Newtown, which reference the UK, have been utter crap. Ignorant.
Yes there is a lot of flapping of gums about guns especially from this president and the mainstream media. Although this incident has spawned much more discussion about mental illness and the failures of psychiatric treatment than I've seen before. I don't know what you "see" in the UK.

Yeah... well. Cowboys can read, too.
Any disagreements with his observations on the differences between US and UK?
