Unless we are experiencing a depression in 2016 (which is possible) due to dempgaphics the GOP is finished as a nationl party. We no longer have the numbers to elect a GOP president. We have reached the tipping point. Thanks to all those FANS of LEGAL immigration we have pulled in over 40 million new voters from the third world since the 1965 Immigration Act. Almost all those new immigrants are poor & in many cases can’t even read or write.

Welcome to the “new America”.

I'd say the GOP as we currently know it is finished as a national party. However, the GOP will simply morph into whatever is necessary to be competitive. Major political party's are designed to win elections. The GOP will dump whatever agenda bits it feels are preventing that. This means the party will move left - probably mostly on social issues. No different than conservative party's in Europe. As those nations veered down the path of secular socialism, the right of center party's adopted more of the left's positions. Unfortunately, that is just how it works until some event or major social change pushes things back to the right - which could be due to economic malaise/collapse, a black swan type event, etc, etc.

Don't count on the voters doing the right thing though. The American public that could be counted on for that is dead or dying off. The current version of the American public is no more politically savvy than the Mexicans who voted for the same socialist party for 70 years, or any number of other countries that have voted for leftist party's over and over and over again for generations. Until the system completely collapses and it is obvious to everyone social welfare states can't survive, people will keep voting that way.
