If it’s true that the mother was preparing to have him committed, how did he find out about it? More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?
There are lots of ways a kid can learn things that he's not supposed to know. When I was a kid I knew a *lot* more about household events than I was supposed to know and that my parents *thought* I knew.
More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?
A valid question...perhaps even she underestimated how serious his disorder was.
Since Adam was an adult, managing his affairs would involve a legal petition. The ex was apparently quit wealthy to fund a trust for Adam since Nancy was receiving hefty alimony
The school principal and psychologist would have Adam's school records and IEP reports to back up her legal petition that Adam was not competent to handle his own adult affairs. They may also have offered to prepare testimony or be expert witnesses if necessary for Nancy's case, and provided other recommendations of services for Adam
You act like he was an outsider who was never inside the house so knew nothing that was going on in it. Sure, kids never sneak around their parents' room. Sure, being a computer geek, he'd never snoop on her computer or listen in on phone calls or take a peek at the mail. Maybe he had access to her car because he'd blown her face off so couldn't tell him he couldn't borrow the keys. Maybe he had access to her weapons because he'd planned this for a while and began the his morning while she was still asleep in bed.
