From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.
A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for his future mental health treatment is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.
Flashman was told Nancy Lanza had begun filing paperwork to get conservatorship over her troubled son, but that could not be confirmed because a court official told FoxNews.com such records are sealed. The move would have been necessary for her to gain the legal right to commit an adult to a hospital or psychiatric facility against his will. A competency hearing had not yet been held.
Adam Lanza attended the Sandy Hook School as a boy, according to Flashman, who said Nancy Lanza had volunteered there for several years. Two law enforcement sources said they believed Nancy Lanza had been volunteering with kindergartners at the school. Most of Lanza's victims were first graders sources believe Nancy Lanza may have worked with last year.
Flashman said Nancy Lanza was also good friends with the schools principal and psychologistboth of whom were killed in the shooting rampage.

because her working with “normal” kids brought her a sense of happiness and fulfillment, of being needed and loved, an escape from the reality of Adam, and social opportunities with empathetic adults like the principal, psychologist and teachers
Adam wanted his mother all for himself even if he could not love her and maybe even wanted to escape and become an adult. Or maybe she wanted his independence more than he did
And he hated not ever being one of those kids who brought her happiness and joy. My bet is she shared stories about her “kids” and volunteer activities with this sullen brooding psycho and that helped him hatch his plan
I worked for years in the ER of a major hospital located in a major city. Our hospital, unlike some, didn't have a psych ward because 1) there was a huge state psychiatric hospital within a couple of hundred yards of our front door and 2) because there was another major hospital located right down the street that *had* one.Anyway,I can tell you hundreds of stories about involuntary commitments to the nearby state hospital. Some went quietly....many most assuredly did *not*.
I posted a few days ago that I was speculating this may be what set him off.
Could be Adam figured Mom was getting help from the Sandy Hook school psychologist.
BFL
That pretty much sums it up given what we know at this time.
During the last decade, where was the "father"?
The next day I met him at the local gunshop and we were waiting at the door when they opened up. I then helped transport a gun safe over to their house and my friend's sister brought all of the guns over so that we could secure them for her.
This is a parenting and mental health issue, not a firearms issue.
There are lots of ways a kid can learn things that he's not supposed to know. When I was a kid I knew a *lot* more about household events than I was supposed to know and that my parents *thought* I knew.
More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?
A valid question...perhaps even she underestimated how serious his disorder was.
Assuming the combination is 3 digits, who is to say that over time he didn't see one or more of the digits his mom dialed and figure out the rest? Because people commonly use digits that are easily remembered, might she have made the mistake of setting her birthdate, or something else that a person having close knowledge would be able to figure out?
There is an extremely interesting Ticker over at Market Ticket dealing with this

The drug Fanapt was approved under suspicious circumstances
http://www.examiner.com/article/fanapt-the-rise-and-fall-of-an-antipsychotic
Quote: “
Vanda did none of those things. Instead, in November, they simply resubmitted the drug to the FDA, using leftover data from the original clinical trials.
It was such a jaw-dropping long shot that Vandas investors couldnt get rid of stock fast enough. Stock prices fell below $1, and the companys worth plummeted to less than cash on hand. At Vanda, there were layoffs and cutbacks, followed by a proxy fight trying to force Vanda to shut down, sell off its assets, and give any remaining money back to the shareholders.
Then, on May 6, 2009, stock analyst Adam Feuerstein observed something strange: Hell froze over Wednesday night, right before a squadron of flying pigs took to the sky.
For reasons only clear to the FDA, the new schizophrenia drug had been approved.”
For some reason the FDA approved Fanapt. Then this surfaces
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-05/fda-chemist-liang-sentenced-to-five-years-prison-in-insider-trading-case.html
A corrupt FDA chemist in the drug approval unit makes 1 million from approval of Fanapt and gets caught. Things that make you go Hmmm.
If someone started acting all crazy - then it would have been time to lock up all the guns in the gun safe. We had one, the expensive guns were always in there.
Since Adam was an adult, managing his affairs would involve a legal petition. The ex was apparently quit wealthy to fund a trust for Adam since Nancy was receiving hefty alimony
The school principal and psychologist would have Adam's school records and IEP reports to back up her legal petition that Adam was not competent to handle his own adult affairs. They may also have offered to prepare testimony or be expert witnesses if necessary for Nancy's case, and provided other recommendations of services for Adam
My brother in Law has one, and anyone who wants to get to his guns needs a blowtorch.
Well then she was a fool to not change the combination.
A gun safe that your psycho son who you are trying to have committed has seen the numbers you use to open, or one that has an “easy to remember” combo that is something he could easily figure out - is as bad as not having a gun safe at all.
When you have guns you have a responsibility to keep them out of the hands of psychos.
Lame excuses do not absolve one of responsibility.
Irrational anger displacement. In his mind these children represented a normalcy that he believed his mother wanted, but did not have with him. This is a guess, but an educated one.
Exactly. The very people, those fine, compassionate "progressives" who,30 or 40 years ago,saw to it that 75% of this nations public psych hospitals were shut down and who made it next to impossible for a well meaning relative to be granted "legal guardianship" over a disturbed person are at least partially responsible here.My 20 years in health care feature hundreds of stories along those very lines.Disgusting stories...some of which literally end in death and many others that featured incredible, unnecessary suffering.
Apparently the jo-mama nixed that as part of the court divorce proceedings.
The father is a rich and powerful man. If he wanted to do that, whey didn’t he?
His father was certainly not doing his job. If we get into the details of this amiable divorce, we usually find that the husband has just washed his hands and split.
