President Obama promised meaningful action to prevent gun violence, but he didnt explain exactly what that meant. Although a push for some kind of gun control legislation seems likely, theres also the possibility of an anti-gun informational campaign as described in 1995 by then-U.S. Attorney Eric Holder.
Holder, now Obamas attorney general, proposed using various levers of media and pop culture to attach a social stigma to guns, just as smoking has been stigmatized in recent decades.
One thing that I think is clear with young people and with adults as well, is that we just have to be repetitive about this, Holder told the Womens National Democratic Club while discussing how to curb gun violence in D.C. Its not enough to simply have a catchy ad on a Monday and then only do it every Monday. We need to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.
To that end, he called for the creative community those ad agencies that create these snappy ads and make me buy things that I dont really need to focus on convincing young people that its not acceptable, its not hip to carry a gun anymore. He emphasized that newspapers and television need to devote prime space to these ads...

Should be easy, there not much left to wash.
Holder admits it takes brainwashing to make people think like him?
What do the potential brain-wash-ees think of this? Oh, nothing I suppose.
Most of the thinkers will be gone in a few short years. Bet holder can’t wait.
A Maoist pig who’s associated with our Community Organizer-In-Chief? Color me stunned!
I wonder who the idiot thinks will pay for these ads?
The Ad Council.
You have to admit, it will work. It did work for smoking. If anybody thinks that brain-washing won’t work just look around. More than half of the population is brain-washed.
Well played.
This is the same willfully naive and earnest Big Government social engineer who evolved 15 years later into Mr. Fast and Furious, the same highly-placed official who wouldn’t prosecute the thugs who intimidated Philadelphia voters at the polling place, as prime an example as you’ll ever find of “thinking guns are cool”? Oh, how he’s “evolved”.
From 1963 until 2001 Americans were bombarded with constant anti-gun messages. Gun control was on a roll! Then it ran into a dead stop, and America woke up to their stupor when 19 Arabs slammed four aircraft into buildings and a field.
Suddenly Americans realized that they just might need a fast shooting rifle after all.
bttt
nbc could probably cancel its entire network and I would never know about it. That’s how much I watch it.
What makes you think high tech subliminal messages aren’t already being used on-air by this government?
What would stop them from utilizing such an advantage? Their high moral standards?
Do you ever wonder why television is so addictive in the last fifteen years? Or why so many conservatives act like sheep? Or why people who give up the TV become “extremists”?
Bitter, clinging LOL!
