Agree on the deeper motives. I believe sometime, maybe not this time or the next, there will be a tipping point. I think Conservatives need to be ready.

A careless parent is already in line for punishment. There are already laws in place for that; check with a lawyer in your area. Someone who allows a toddler to gain access to a gun and hurts himself or someone else can probably be charged with noncompliance with law, including negligent homicide.
