A crazed gunman dressed in black went on a rampage at a Connecticut elementary school this morning, in a massacre that left the shooter and 26 dead others - including 18 children.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot his mother dead and targeted her kindergarten class at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., sources sais. Sources also told The Post that Lanza's mother was a teacher at the school and he "had a dispute with her."

Lanza is dead inside the school.

Lanza used two handguns and a .223-caliber assault rifle, an official said. The official also said that New Jersey state police are searching a location in connection with the shootings.

Police in Hoboken, NJ are questioning Lanza's older brother Ryan, 24, but he is not a suspect.

Why would someone with a .223 use the more expensive 5.56 ammo? It’ll quickly wear out their barrel or jam as you allude to. Typically a 5.56 shoots .223 ammo due to the cheaper price of rounds. The only issue is poor accuracy but moly powder can help that.

223 is not NATO 7.62, it is NATO 5.56.

Technically, the .223 is not a NATO 5.56. The differences are in the “ledde” in the chamber and there is more wall thickness in the .5.56. Externally they are the same and will interchange although some firearm manufacturers don’t approve of it.

I know in Israel the teachers are armed..there hasn’t been a shooting at a school since 1974..schools need to start arming their teachers..and I would also like to know how come this guy was allowed to even enter the school. The mother wasn’t even at the school, from what I have been hearing the school buzzed this fruitcake in, why would they buzz someone into the school whose mother wasn’t even there

One who owns a Sig Sauer, Glock and a Bushmaster? Maybe, maybe not. I grew up in a similar rural part of Conn (different part of the state though) and we were about 60/40 conservatives till the yuppies discovered our town and moved in.

In diameter virtually the same as a .22 cal.

It’s the much larger charge of powder, weight & shape of round, and velocity that make the .223 or 556 far more lethal than the 22LR.

Interesting that you should mention population density as an issue and relate it to caged mice. When I was in college I remember reading a study done that was about that very issue. The person that did the study used mice and studied their behavior as the population in cages grew. When few mice were in the cage they were very nice and courteous to each other; very helpful friendly community. The researcher kept adding mice, and as the population grew more dense they became crankier until they reached the point of killing each other. The researcher made sure there was plenty of food, water, and good sanitary conditions kept in the cages- it really seemed as though just having too many mice kept in an area where they could not have personal space, etc. seemed to make them become violent. The researcher questioned whether it could be related to humans and population density and he seemed to think it could.

I am sure it is not the whole answer, but do think it is a part of the puzzle.

these incidents are part of fast and furious ii. there has been weird stuff in afew of these that dont add up.

just excuses to exploit and clamp down on the law-abiding.

and imo they will never disarm the population of thiscountry. theydon’t have enough replacement agents, police, sheriffs, and military to do it. and if they bring in foreigners they will hang for treason.

I just posted the same thought that some of these killers could be Machurian candidates of some sort. It wouldn’t be too difficult to hypnotize mentally unbalanced people into committing murders. Of course the powerful drugs available today are advertized with the warnings that they can cause violent or suicidal feelings. What about all of that Ritalin that has been fed to kids for years?

This is a lot more than the guns. There are many unbalanced people out there and I think that we are not connecting all the dots in how we should deal with them in a comprehensive way.

There was definately a third terrorist at Oklahoma City. TV reporter Jayna Davis worked in Oklahoma City on the day of the bombing, she was within a short distance of the Murrah building and was on the scene in a couple of minutes. She interviewed several eye witnesses who all described the third terrorist in the same way. The next day there were two newspaper drawings of the terrorists. One looked like Tim McVey and the other looked just like the description of the third terrorist that the eye witnesses described.

There used to be large state mental institutions that were terrible places but smaller institutions dispursed throughout the state would let the inmates’ family members visit more often and keep an eye on conditions.

I think your proposals make a lot of sense.

There is also the silent evil of abortion lurking in the dark corners of the room. Respect for life? Why? Did the Supreme Court respect life? Do many of our political and cultural leaders respect life? Do millions of Americans respect life when they vote for people who proudly support abortion?

It is definitely not a hunting rifle.

I wouldn't take a .223 to hunt elk, but they do quite well against coyotes and other varmints, so I guess it depends on what you are hunting.

We're on the same page, the primary distinction between "assault rifle/weapons" and "military style" or "assault style" that media has recently adopted is select fire, aka full auto capability.

I would prefer that any tool available to LEO or military also be legal for law abiding US citizens to buy and own, but I am in the minority....

CONN & NJ have the most onerous gun laws in America, shooter in this case broke about 25 of them before he even fired a shot. More "gun control" is not the solution.

Now they are saying he has Asperger's Syndrome. I thought, great. I'm sure I have it too and I have no desire to hurt anyone with my .22LR.

Some say it is pure evil that enters these people, I cannot deny that, there are so many factors here and I'm sure this is one of them.

I believe he was a troubled kid. I don't know his background too much, but I guess he felt he was either ignored, kicked to the side or whatever and something, somehow snapped in him and he went ape. When I was a kid, I was fascinated by the "Son of Sam" case. A lot of psychologists in the late 1970's did make a point where if people were kicked aside, or feel that way, they go down the slippery slope and decide it is their mission to make their mark on society. They believe it is their only recourse and see their cause as "being good" and/or getting revenge.

I thank God I had a foundation in life because there were times I felt that way too. I also know that no matter what happens, doing stuff like that is wrong. Maybe Lansa lacked a good foundation along with the lack thereof, took a leap off the slippery slope.

I'd like to know if he was on any psychotropic meds too, sometimes such meds can cause feelings of violence and suicide.

I remember reading about that mice/rat study too where you increase the population density, they turn violent and so on.
