State police are responding to a report of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive, school officials said.
Police are reporting a number of injured parties. The nature of their injuries is not clear.

I can see these incidents as being used to argue for something beyond mere gun control—to wit, for a totalitarian police state where we are kept under close government surveillance in order to keep us all “safe.”
Yes the “lockdown”. Why would any school more than a mile way need to be locked down?
If I was a terrorist and wanted to strike us through our children I would start a ruckus at one school and once they were all locked down in a secured, unarmed area while all police were scrambling to one location and no armed parents were allowed on campus I would then execute my real plan.
Back in public school days I told my teenagers that if things go south exit the property immediately before they lock the damn doors and set-up a killing field and go to predetermined place ignoring any teachers on their way, I will be there within 4 minutes of them calling me (better than police response) while evacuating. Luckily, now we are in a small private, conservative, Christian school with our younger ones.
Denying parents their children that are not in the immediate incident zone just infuriates me. It’s all for the children....MY KIDS ARE SAFER WITH ME.
We are a nation of wimps when things like this happen time again and good people do not arm themselves.

Yes we have always had massacres. From the 1700’s to today. What has changed is the media circus. Look at all those stabed at school in the China. Haven’t heard much about it have ya? Because it did not involve a gun. Western shootouts and lawmen being murdered at a alarming rate after the Southern war for Independence. Lots to name but don’t have the time or space. Problem is no one reads much history. One common tie is most lawlessness was ended when citizens with guns and rope had enough.
Fox is saying confirmed at least 1 child dead.Also I don’t know if anyone posted this but they are looking for a car with the back window out.
Update: According to Hartford’s FOX affiliate, children were indeed among those killed in Friday’s shooting. Police are said to be searching for a maroon colored vehicle with the back window blown out in connection with the incident.
WFSB, the local Fox affiliate, reports that the school is asking parents to stay by the phone awaiting information and not to go to the school.
This is a STEAMING PANTLOAD! Why lock down every school in the area if the perp is already down? If this were an organized attack, it’s be Beslan Redux and a masscal scene.
The chances of keeping the parents of young children away from that school are ZERO.
I live in CT (about 70 miles from Newtown, CT). I don't know why Fox News is calling WFSB "the local Fox affiliate". WFSB Channel 3 is the local CBS affiliate.
Fox 61 (WTIC) is the local Fox affiliate, located in Hartford, CT.

We used to live not too far from Newtown. It’s a nice, upscale town. Not as fancy as Greenwich or the towns closer to NYC, but no slums or anything.
I would guess that this was either a nutcase, or someone who had it in for the principal over a disciplinary dispute or something similar. (Still a nutcase, if so.)
Danbury, where some of the victims were evidently taken to the hospital, is not too far away, and has a few slummy sections. But I can’t imagine why the slum folks would go all the way to Newtown to do something like this.
I agree. Lockdowns are stupid and anti constitutional. I would never put my kids into an institution where I couldn’t get them out if there was trouble.
They should let the kids go if there is trouble. Make parents sign a waiver “schools are sometimes shot up by crazy people and we are heretofore not responsible for your son’s safety.”
On 911 my homeschooled kids were right next to me.

Swell, Newtown is my town. No kids at Sandy Hook, but one in lock down (and safe) elsewhere in the school district.
If there were two shooters, one on the loose, the children would ne have been released.
