Two of my daughters are positions of firing people. They get a little squimmish when faced with firing a Black.

I told them no problem: If they want to pull that race card bit. All you have to do is axked them: "Where you Black when I hired you?"

My wife, as a manager (now retired) wasn't squeamish about firing anyone, regardless of race. She documented everything, and worked closely with HR and legal departments. One Chinese guy tried the race card, claiming discrimination, getting sympathy from others and hoping to beat the system. My wife persevered, and when the legal people interviewed her in person and saw her face sided with her. She has my jewish name. But she is Chinese-American. City cops took him out in handcuffs after the Chinese guy lost it and went ballistic on company security. He sued, and lost his case. Tell your daughters to hang in there. Document everything.

Ooh, I like that line!

A couple of years ago I worked for a company that let the majority of it's employees telecommute. I'd only actually met one person from there, and only because she lived just 5 blocks away. One of the people I had to fire ran to HR and claimed we were picking on him because he was black, so of course my boss had to come talk to the whole team and lecture us about racism. I stopped the whole speech by asking a single question: "How are we supposed to tell what skin color they have?"

You could hear a pin drop. Then the boss started laughing so hard she couldn't talk. Apparently it hadn't occured to HR that since each and every one of us telecommuted, we had no idea what anyone looked like.

Thus ended our "sensitivity" training.
