Maybe next time they'll think about NOT voting for a Socialist turd and his enablers in Congress.

Unfortunately they will vote for the socialists to keep the Govt. benefits coming.
They instinctively know the Republicans are not enthusiastic about giving taxpayers money to non- workers. -Tom

So what happens when you apply for those jobs and still get rejected? Rejected thousands of times?

****
Really? You’ve been rejected “thousands” of times? Sounds a little exagerated to me. Perhaps you were rejected a few times ...and just let it get to you, so you gave up.

They say, “You’re too old,” or “We can’t hire a lady like you, this is a group of rough men, you could get raped,” or “You wouldn’t have the strength,” (possibly true) or “Can you lift fifty pounds?” (no) or “Your Spanish isn’t good enough to get along with the rest of the crew.”

**
What the hell kind of jobs are you applying for? Construction crew jobs? I don’t get it.

Get a nursing degree? Sure. Glad to do it. That takes four years (actually less—I could probably test out of some of the requirements), and thousands of dollars in tuition money. I need a job now, not years down the road when I’ll be in my sixties.

*****

A basic LPN or RN nursing degree takes 2 years or less. You can often apply for scholarships from hospitals who will pay the tuition as long as you commit to them for a few years. That’s what I did. It’s DOABLE. I was in my mid 40’s when I did it. A nursing tech job? Takes less than a year and usually tutition is dirt cheap for those sorts of positions.

*****

I was out of work for nearly two years despite the fact that I would have taken ANYTHING. Despite coaching, professional resume writing, despite lots of help from state agencies and private ones, despite everything. I am now working two jobs, and office job during the week and doing physical labor at a horse stable on weekends, plus trying to make a home business go. I am chronically hungry, exhausted, and cold, I’m driving a car that’s dangerous, and I can’t get the medicine I need, but as hard as I work, I’m still facing homelessness. I am not in this situation because I’m lazy or excessively demanding. And I don’t know where you think you see all these mythical jobs you think Americans won’t do, but they sure aren’t giving them to me and my friends.

So keep your smug little lectures about how lazy and fussy we all are. May you never find out how wrong you are.

***
Anything? Did you apply to restaurants? Fast food? I mean — what were you shooting for? You couldn’t get even a retail position? I can detect many problems right here from just your post: You exaggerate, and you make excuses. Maybe if you worked on putting things in the proper perspective, and stopped making excuses, you’d actually take some action and make things better for yourself. Also, what is in your past? Did you ever go to college? Why not? What were you doing in your youth? Studying? or partying? I dont’ know your whole story, and it sounds like your’re probably not too honest about it even with yourself.

Sorry to be so harsh, but often times, much of this depends on attitude and outlook as well.

I was going to write a brisk and thorough refutation of your post, but decided that I have no reason to justify myself or the entire fifty-eight years of my life to a stranger. It's enough that my adult children thank me for what I've done, my friends say I inspire them, and my clergyman warmly supports me.

Just to clarify, however:
Yes, in two years the number of job applications I sent out was into four figures, so I do not exaggerate when I say "thousands."
Yes, I have my degree in a hard-science area. GPA 4.7/5.
Yes, I applied for jobs in retail and fast food. I also applied to work on cleaning crews, landscape/grass mowing companies, and stables.
I am presently working in a medical area.

You may not have noticed in the course of writing your condemnations, but since you're criticizing me for failing to get a job, I just thought I'd draw your attention to the fact that I do have jobs. Two of them. I am also running a home business.

Some Freepers, it seems, are absolutely devoid of compassion for anyone who has been or is out of work, or has any other problem in life. It's easier to condemn us and say that our problems are due to some fault with us, because that means such disasters could never happen to you.

It’s been a couple days, but I just wanted to thank all of you for your help and support on this thread and others. It may just seem like text, but it’s really helped.

God bless, young brother.

Thank God every day that you wake up and get another shot at things.

Can’t promise anything except that tough times WILL make you tougher. And that’s never a bad thing for a young man - especially in this time we’re in now.

No problem, hang in there. And just remember, one day when you are 60 you will look back on this era as “the good old days”. LOL
