Supporting gay marriage doesn’t take government out of the equation. It uses government to force the rest of us to recognize something we don’t recognize.

It isn’t a limitation on the power of government; it is an further intrusion of the power of government into an area where it has not previously intruded, to overturn a moral tradition of thousands of years of standing.

In America we all knew what marriage was until Mormonism came along, then by 1862 the federal government had to step in to stop polygamy.

Today Mormonism, Islam, any cult, any homosexual church or new religion, can define it for themselves, if there is no common definition.

Since marriage has to be recognized from state to state, there has to be some agreed on definitions.

Exactly. Redefinition of marriage to be “same-sex”, polygamous and/or incestuous will require an enlargement of the government, not a reduction of it. That’s why the socialists want it and the libertarians are betraying their supposed “government, leave me alone” principles by supporting it.
