By Mr. Curmudgeon:
Two developments in the Republican Party point to its future: South Carolina's Jim DeMint announced his retirement from the United States Senate to serve as president of the conservative Heritage Foundation, and the Reuters News Service reports that GOP House Speaker John Boehner is purging conservative Tea Party members from key committees "as he seeks to tighten control over his unruly caucus ahead of difficult votes on 'fiscal cliff' issues."
The consolidation of America's one-party state begins.
You see, it matters not how conservative a Republican you send to Congress if his vote (and yours indirectly) is negated by the gelding brothers John Boehner (House) and Mitch McConnell (Senate).
"I've decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas," said Sen. DeMint in a statement announcing his departure from the Senate. DeMint told the Wall Street Journal's Dan Henninger, "This is an urgent time, because we saw in the last election we [Republicans] were not able to communicate conservative ideas that win elections."
In short, DeMint had an epiphany: His party's leadership is unable to "communicate conservative ideas" because they and the party they lead are not conservative. And believing they are requires a tortured redefinition of the term "conservative."
I have been a registered Republican my entire adult life. But the neutering of the GOP by its establishment mafia has left me no choice: At the earliest opportunity, I'll part company with the Party of Lincoln and register as an Independent.
I can't support a party that has become nothing more than the women's auxiliary of the Democratic Party.

I agree with DeMint!
We are wasting our time trying to save the party of idiots!
Sums it up pretty good.
Red Team, Blue Team, Same Team...
How many current members of the House and Senate will be willing to leave the GOP before 2014, and run as candidates of a new conservative party? (Or the Constitution Party?)
It’s time for the GOP to stop putting in the second stringers and get with the program. I keep hearing about a civil war in this country. The commie ‘RATS fired the first shots of Civil War II a long time ago and America has failed to respond. We don’t need two DemocRAT Parties. Not a day goes by when the communists on “da Hill” and in the state controlled “media” aren’t trashing and smearing the TEA Party. I can smell the ‘RATS fear of Americans all the way out here in Arizona. DemocRATs are yellow cowards. They are scared to death of the Americans who call themselves the TEA Party. The only way the ‘RATS can control Americans is by controlling the GOP leadership. I’m pretty sure that all ended on November 6, 2012. Americans have had it with the GOP.
We can leave the GOP (I have) or we collectively speaking, need to sit down and STFU because by our actions in light of the GOPs behavior, we must want to be the right wing plantation dwellers.
That simple folks. All the feet to the fire talk is bs and we all know it. But some still refuse to believe their lyin eyes and ears.
The enemy is us. I am sick and tired of repeating the facts to the willfully deaf. We can hang together as conservatives and BE conservatives or just admit we are the GOP and we want liberalism.
>> leave or STFU
Screw that. We must take ownership of the GOP, and stop disbanding especially after 2010.
I see no reason to follow DeMint.
Where’s the stamina?
The wife and I left the GOP the day after the last “election”. We’re fed up. We watched the GOP candidates, including Romney, get pounded day after day on radio and TV. If it wasn’t for Obama rubber stamp, Ann Kirkpatrick’s (AZ-RAT) filthy, vomit-filled campaign ads in my district, I wouldn’t have even known who was running against her. The GOP acted as though they all believed that Americans hated Obama so much that there was no way he would win reelection and they would ride Romney’s coat tails to DC. Well, that didn’t work out and now we’re stuck with 4 more years of communist antics and greedy money grabbing from Barry and the RATS.
Please explain in great and specific detail how ‘exactly” you overcome an institution filled top down with people who are far closer to Dems than us when they have stripped all mechanisms from the ‘corporate structure’ to do so.
If you want to prop up our opponents, you are every bit the problem.
Why waste my “stamina” running in place.
The GOP of today is the right arm of the communist left.
I’ve voted straight repub ticket since the day I turned 18.
I’m 44 years old. Tomorrow I’m changing my registration to independent.
I’m done with the make-believe stage show put on by the GOP.
This gal has had enough.
I’m a fellow ‘Zonie’ up in the other corner. You should have seen the crap we had running up here as “Republican”.
Reagan as usual was right. The party left me.
The old saying goes, Republicans were put on earth to cut taxes. Boehner is crawfishing and violating the very essence of Republicanism. I believe he is doing this in an effort to save the Republican Party as he understands it, which is the understanding of an elitist inside the Beltway. Boehner is no longer one of seven siblings raised in a bar, he is a careerist politician who is invested in the system as a system not in a Republican philosophy. In trying to save the Republican Party, he will destroy it.
There is apparently no issue on which Boehner is willing to confront the president.
Either the party will revolt against Boehner or there will be a third party splinter movement. Boehner's dithering has only accelerated a tendency which many of us had predicted before the election in the event of a loss by Mitt Romney. There is very little now to hold movement conservatives within the framework of the elitist Republican Party.
Good! May the trend continue!
Psych 101: Never reinforce bad behavior. And the GOP has had 2 decades of bad behavior already.
Don’t fund the RNC/GOP and work locally to elect the right candidates. It’s not complicated.
>> If you want to prop up our opponents, you are every bit the problem.
Silly conditional.
Yup! I kept thinking that our side was holding their fire until the last minute. They got trampled holding their fire. There was no way Obama Rubber Stamp, Ann Kirkpatrick, deserved to be sent back to Washington. She really stuck it to Arizonans the last time she was there.
>> Im 44 years old. Tomorrow Im changing my registration to independent.
Will that affect your ability to vote in the primaries?
Don’t throw away your tools.
Boy are you gonna get a lot of junk mail.
Gonna answer the question or not? Explain in detail. Don’t just throw out the same tired apologist pap we have heard, tried and FAILed with for 20 years.
Tell me why you believe we should waste money and resource resurrecting a name that has been ground into the dirt. Please. I wanna know where the ‘logic’ lies.
Common sense says leave the albatross behind and begin anew with established principles.
Oh...but I forgot. A bunch of RINO freepers ran around telling people that principle and ‘purity’ were the problem and ‘winning’ was all that mattered.
Look at what they won Johnny!
That’s right hey WON NOTHING BY DOING THE SAME STUPID CRAP YET AGAIN!!
And you apparently like having the GOP rub your nose in it.
So be it.
We need more voters who understand the traditions and benefits of Conservatism much more than we need yet another conservative in the Minority in the Senate where he can’t get anything done.
Bravo to Jim DeMint, with his background and experience this could be the start of taking the country in the right direction. The game for Conservatives has to be be winning hearts and minds, not writing legislation.
