The announcement could be good news for a country that has been struggling with an unemployment rate of around 8 percent for some time and has been bleeding good-paying factory jobs to lower-wage nations such as China.
Cook, who joined Apple in 1998, said he believes it’s important to bring more jobs to the United States. Apple would not reveal where exactly the Macs will be manufactured.

The natural (and/or man-made) disasters in Asia over the last several years have underscored the dangers of relying on single geographic location for manufacturing. Even if it is less cost-efficient shift some production back to the US, it generates goodwill and minimizes the geographic risk.
LMAO! So the cost of Apple products will increase (unions) while the average household’s discretionary budget decreases.
I’m not all for the idea of “slave labor” in China, but I think we can all guess how this is going to end up.
I will be real surprised if Apple assembles in California.

Year-over-year sales are up, but it’s probably a smaller percentage of their business due to the larger increases in MacBook, iPhone, and iPad sales.
I lived in Austin from 1992 to 2000. Lived near the arboretum, which at the time, was a very conservative part. I remember Pflugerville, Round Rock and Leander as being conservative areas. Clarksville and downtown as libtardville.
Exactly, their already overpriced products can only get more expensive with this move. Doesn’t seem like a sound business decision to me.
It’s capitulation to those limp-wristed dolts who complain about working conditions for Foxconn factory workers. They kvetch about working conditions, but they don’t realize that there are legions of Chinese people waiting for job openings at those plants. You get a few to commit suicide on the campus to make some political point, but Foxconn brings in new recruits the next day to replace them. Isn’t capitalism grand?
Putting factories to work in the US would require minimum workplace safety standards, 8 hour days, likely union thuggery, health benefits, etc. The cost of production would SKYROCKET compared to the labor costs of doing the same thing in China or Mexico. These limp-wristers just don’t understand how supply/demand and production cost works.
I doubt it will be a high tax state like California. The price would quadruple. They better sharpen their pencils.
This may just be a PR stunt.
