VCU volleyball coach James Finley says he was fired because he is gay; team finished 25-6

RICHMOND, Va. — VCU women’s volleyball coach James Finley is fighting to get his job back after he says he was fired because he is gay.

Finley, 52, has filed a complaint with VCU’s Office for Institutional Equity. University spokesperson Pamela D. Lepley said an investigation is being conducted and must be completed within 45 days.

His overall record is 151 - 116, good, but not really outstanding.

“I have felt completely not a part of the thing that I love,” Finley said. “For one person to do that, and to meet with me for the first time and to tell me I’m not a good representative of the university — somebody that doesn’t even know me because he’s never made an effort to get to know me — there’s no other conclusion that I can come to other than that he just doesn’t want a gay person representing his athletic department.”

From his attributed quotes in the article, it appears that the poor dears "feelings" are hurt.

Well there would be some discussion as who their legs in the air but I digress....the girls must be heartbroken, not only do they lose a volleyball coach but a hair and couture consultant.

It’s one thing to not renew him when his contract is up, but it looks baffling to some of us that have been in athletic administration at the DI level for a long time (I spent almost ten years at a Big Ten and Big East schools in Intercollegiate Athletics).

The school doesn’t look good in this considering the guy’s record this year. I would like to know what his career record was at the school.

Maybe its like the way publik skoolz would quietly get rid of teachers who sexually abused kids by transferring them to another school system and city. Happened all the time, probaably still happening.

There could be a lot of problems with this guy that has nothing to do with the scores.
