Hey, no bigs. Its just a 100-year-old company and Californias only surviving cannery, a sustainable, family-owned operation employing 30 people. The Drakes Bay Oyster Company has been in a seven-year fight with the federal government and environmental groups over whether its 40-year lease would be renewed this week. The Lunny family, which owns the oyster farm, was among a group of families that sold their ranch lands to the National Parks Service in the 1970s to protect them from developers, with the understanding they would get 40-year-leases renewed in perpetuity. After buying and operating the oyster farm without incident they were even featured as outstanding environmental stewards by the National Parks Service the Lunnys learned in 2005 they were accused of bringing environmental damage to an area the NPS and environmentalists were anxious to designate as the nations first federally recognized marine wilderness.

I’m still standing in awe of someone possessing a beachfront property in California and thinking, “Hey, the Federal Government should own this property to prevent it from being developed”.
What that says is THEY love the life on the oceanfront, but feel like nobody else should ever be able to enjoy what THEY do. Selfish A-holes.
What sort of nincompoop does that?

I probably would ,, “protect from developers” is probably code for California was about to sieze the property for developers .
If your comment wasn’t sarcasm you must be a communist troll here on FR.
But they were only leasing the property or the last 100 years from the government, and your coments are stupid even for a Rhino.
You are 100% correct about what are called neighborhood nannies. In Virginia Beach
on the beach front property I was talked to by two old ladies who owned huge
newly remodeled homes on the Chesapeake bay. They were complaining about their neighbor
rebuilding their home into a larger house that was about the same size as theirs.
They started a petition to stop the building through the city counsel, and lost big time.
I gave them a talking to and they shut up about it, but still did the petition.
They came after my home with a petition also because it was rezoned for a larger residence,
and they had zero reason to do this. They lost that also. But they only need
to win one time to set precedence for future petitions.
You can bet they are in every neighborhood. Most of the time they are friendly little old ladies
who love to chat you up. What they are really doing is gathering information against you
for future use should the opportunity arise. And since they love to chat, just listen to their words and you'll know.
Marin County is a very beautiful place and across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco so very desirable as a bedroom community. In the 1970s the county and it’s residents decided to restrict building in many places. The effect was that the price of real estate sky rocketed and is still very high, not depriciating in any real manner.
This family sold out to that “we have ours so who needs other poor folks around to dirty up our pristene place” and I don’t really feel sorry for them.
I lived in Marin for 35 years.
Stoopit White people. Serves them right.../s
Sucks, really...
I liked eating a barbecue place across the street that grilled mussels, tuna and clams.
I normally won’t touch shellfish but, it’s part of the experience in that area.
Yummmmm....
I should go this week and get in on it before they are toast...
the Lunnys learned in 2005 they were accused of bringing environmental damage to an area the NPS and environmentalists were anxious to designate as the nations first federally recognized marine wilderness.
I need read no further...
The Lunny Family is about to become the Loony family who thought to trust their government.
Well, except Tamales Bay.
Seems like you can still get Tamales there....
Yep, the water stopped flowing and the grass stopped growing pretty quick after most of those treaties. Never trust the feds. The founding fathers knew what they were talking about when they tried to limit the feds powers.
Good. Let everything fail. This country sucks.
As for you, you take care, both you and us are in for a bumpy ride.
Very sad that this business is another casualty of the enviro-wackos. Remember the EPA guy saying they show up and crucify people like the Romans as a warning to everyone else.
THESE are the crazies now running the system — anti job, anti business and anti HUMAN. They believe humans are a scourge on mother earth and have zero empathy.
Unlike lost firearms, they can change the currency to ensure your accounts never see any future use...
"You ****** up, you trusted us."
Kind of sad. I don’t interact with my neighbors much anymore. It is not just your old ladies with a lot of time on their hands but other people who feel they represent “society” and want to protect “society”.
I live in a townhouse complex, been here for 17 years. I have been thinking of selling my place and move somewhere else but if I was doing much better financially, I would have done it. Due to a restraining order, I am not allowed to use the pool/tennis courts and not allowed to “show my face” except at the mailbox and to drive between the main road and my unit. This is due to a run-in I had with an out of state police officer, a bull dyke lesbian living with a different woman. And the restraining order is from the officer’s home state which got registered here. Good thing they moved away a couple of months ago but I tried to get the order rescinded but to no avail. I also had a run-in with some corporate executive the prior summer who moved into the neighborhood for a short time after he got divorced and the officer knew about the run-in too. I also gotten anonymous complaint letters on things like my old pickup truck, my motorcycle and my 13 year old skateboarding/riding bike here.
When the lesbian couple moved out, the officer already left and went back home. I was walking to my mailbox and saw a man who was doing work at the property and I asked some questions related to the property thinking he was the landlord or his agent. He told me that he knew the court order and I was strongly advised by him to keep moving and not show my face and I would be reported. He mentioned he was the other woman’s (estranged) husband.
Unfortunately these type of people are getting more prevalent in our society too and they voted for Obama. In some ways I like to move someplace where I can pee outside the backdoor and no one can see me and care. I am sure other folks here had various run-ins with these type of a-holes too.
