The only silver lining in this whole mess is that AFTER New London acquired the properties, Pfizer BACKED OUT of its pledge to continue to build its campus, and the New London City Council was left holding their di*ks in their hands - and NO extra tax revenue ...
If the residents had been allowed to reamin - at least the city would still have gotten the property taxes on the old homes ...

That was a messed-up decision, and the outcome showed how much. Along the Hudson River in NY there was a little village called Doodletown (south of West Point, on the border of a state park); in the 1960s the state used eminent domain to seize the dozens of properties of the people living there to build a ski center, then never built it. 200 years before the ancestors of some of those property owners had fought the British at nearby Fort Clinton and Fort Montgomery (you can still see their graves in the old cemeteries scattered throughout the area); they would have been better off supporting George III.
